If she would rather eat worms than accept a bid from a group, she should not list them on her pref card.

Exactly -- some women don't want a bid any ol' where -- and that's a choice she made, knowing the consequences.

LSU Recruitment 2007
Thanks for all the posts. It helps to have a support system because when your daughter hurts, you hurt! Yes, by not putting a second and third choice on her preference card, she did free up spots for other girls. Yes, she does have friends who were pulling for her inside of her first choice so perhaps that would help in the spring (if they offer spring Rush) - in fact, they pulled so hard and were so sure that she was going to get in that they said they don't know if THEY could take the stress of her going through Rush again! ) She did make a lot of additional friends in that sorority just by going through the process - girls came up to her all week saying that they had heard so much about her and were so glad she was still in the running. As we know, when one door closes...

This is a great point and one that a lot of people don't think of when they're upset. Her third is someone else's first. Big hugs for this post.

Yea, that is one way of looking at it.
Question: If she really did not want to be in those other groups, why didn't she just drop them earlier in recruitment? If she had them all the way through pref, it would seem that she had some interest in them?

If they're on your schedule, you have to go.
If you put XYZ and ABC last on your card, but all of the other chapters drop you, XYZ and ABC will appear on your schedule, despite you putting them last.

LSU Recruitment 2007
She attended all three preference night parties because they encourage the girls to keep all of their options open until the end. She was hoping that perhaps she would have "felt" more in one of the other 2 sororities that night, persuading her to at least choose one as a 2nd choice. There's not doubt that she would have received a bid from either her 2nd or 3rd choice, but it just wasn't the right thing for her. After she received "the phone call", she said that not making her first choice was difficult but that it would have been even more difficult to show up at bid day and end up getting her 2nd choice. She knew that she would have been obligated to her 2nd choice for a year, even if she was unhappy.

From your previous post it seems like your daughter may have another chance. I do hope things work out for her. Afterall, sorority membership is a lifetime commitment, and she does need to be happy with her choice.

She could have accepted the bid and left the chapter at any time (up until Initiation) to be eligible for Recruitment next year. The one year obligation is only if she accepted a bid and declined it, then she cannot participate in Recruitment for one calendar year.
You are correct, however, that by not being matched she is open to attend any COB events if available.
