I know now that this is very true. The one sorority that she had left led her to believe that she would not get a bid from them as they usually try and take girls of a certain religious preference. Unfortunately she was not told that by dropping out she would hurt her chances of a snap bid. I wish the rush advisors had done a better job at that. There were many girls who dropped out.

hollywin - thank you for clarifying, I couldn't figure out from your previous post if your D didn't like the sorority or vice versa or what the deal was.

DGAdDawg,
I just received this bit of news from one of the DDD advisors. Tri-Delta has a new member class of 56 at UGA. The new members are leaving today for a fun retreat in the north Georgia mountains along with some alumnae DDDs.
The collegians are thrilled that several of the new members are Delta Delta Delta legacies.
She had very little time to talk, so I did not learn what the quota number was at UGA.

If that was the case, they shouldn't have kept inviting her back. Sounds like her hostess wasn't communicating well that day, I can't imagine any chapter saying that bald-faced.
Again, I hope your daughter can take advantage of COB options, if not now, then in the Spring.

I just found out that a young lady I wrote a rec for pledged Gamma Phi Beta!
I am especially excited because I wrote a rec for her sister when she pledged, too.
I don't have a daughter so it's meant a lot to help start a little legacy with these two fabulous girls.

If at all possible, get at least one rec for every group at any SEC recruitment and at many other big recruitments.

I wish someone would have told me this!!!! I just finished recruitment and actually quit before prefs because I only had one house who asked me to prefs. I almost wish I stayed because seeing all the girls in their bid day t-shirts makes me so sad! I always imagined I would join a sorority, but no one in my family ever has, so I am not a legacy. I met a few KD girls last year and was even told by them that i would "definitely" get in-- i had my hopes up and was cut by KD second round.
Does anyone know about UGA's spring recruitment?? Or how the sororities feel about sophmores who rush?

pnm2789,
on monday go by the greeklife office and see if any of the sororities are going to hold some informal recruitment parties. sign up for informal recruitment and go to the events if you are invited.
even if you get a call from a sorority that did not knock your socks off during formal recruitment, go to an event and meet the initiated members and the new members. many times sororities will have a whole different feel in an informal recruitment setting and you can really get to know the members well.

ITA....With Informal recruitment, you get to know the girls in a much more relaxed setting and spend lots more time with them. If you still think you want to participate in Greek Life, I say go for it! Some of our best members joined through Informal and Spring rush!

Congrats to all the new members and good luck to everyone doing COB!
And per InCircle-
"[Alpha Omicron Pi] at UGA pledged 56 wonderful ladies! Included in this group are 13 legacies - It's great to be a Lambda Sigma!! Quota was 52"

some numbers
My D told me that Alpha Gam had the largest pledge class of 64. I'm assuming this is because they were not at house quota. (If I am correct in my assumption see how much I have picked up in just a week's time!!!!!! I only wish I knew about this site long ago!)
I "heard" that AXO quota was 52 and they took 57 and didn't even have to go very far down on their list.....like under 5.
Is there somewhere to find out the numbers of how many were invited to prefs at the houses?

Very few houses participate in spring recruitment and typically they have very few slots available. However, some houses may be COBing to total within the next couple of weeks. You should call the Greek Life office to make sure you are on the COB list so they can contact you. If you don't get called for COB, then call the Greek Life office when you get back in January to see if any houses will be having informal spring rush.
It can be hard for a sophomore to get a bid without friends in the houses, stellar grades, and campus involvement. Different chapters feel differently about sophomores, though... some will extend bids to sophomores and for others it's pretty much unheard of.

PLEASE READ AND KEEP FOR ALL TIME
To every girl/parent of girl going through recruitment at UGA:
the sororities were just emailed a list of recruitment statistics, where everyone was placed, etc, from the greek life office.
the sororities were also emailed a substantial list of girls who were not placed, ie. mismatched. These are girls who did NOT drop out of recruitment. These girls are being offered to the sororities first. These are NOT the COB lists.
Morale of the story: stick it out. maximize your options. Those are the girls they are going to help place first.
/off my soapbox now.
