I think that I read on the athletics page of our Ohio University website that the Bobcat cheerleaders are going to the competition.
I'm not aware that they've ever done that before.
Kentucky is one of Ohio's southern border states. Maybe something rubbed off.

I was wrong. I found a link to a webpage of an Ohio U. cheerleader from around 2000-2001 with an article that said they ranked tenth that year in Daytona, I think.
Shows what I know.

For those of you who want proof.
From varsity.com (the site of UCA-the company that hosts the college cheer championship):
http://www.varsity.com/index.asp?article=3283
"The University of Central Florida, this season's featured squad on WE tv's Cheerleader U, just returned from UCA college camp at the University of Alabama. They had a very successful week, taking first place in Fight Song and Cheer and placing second in Sideline. They also took home a Traditions Award. Don't forget to watch Cheerleader U, which airs on WE starting August 2, 2007. More updates on UCF in the coming weeks..."

Release: 11/05/2007
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State cheerleaders once again have qualified for the 2008 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship at the Walt Disney World Resort, Jan. 20, 2008. The national championship will be held at Disney’s MGM Studios and Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Ohio State qualified for the national championship by winning the Northeast Region for the 19th time in the last 21 years, defeating Penn State, Cincinnati, Ohio University and Syracuse.
“Our squad works very hard to put an entry together and the team is deserving of its regional win,” Judy Bunting, head cheerleading coach, said. “We look forward to the national championship in January and we will have to continue to work hard to develop our routine and execute it well at nationals against some very stiff competition. I think our tumbling is definitely stronger this year and we still are very strong in partner stunting and pyramids.”
By winning their region, the Buckeyes received an automatic bid to the national competition, as well as free transportation and hotel accommodations. Ohio State joins Minnesota (Mid-America Region), Kentucky (South Region) and Hawaii (West Region) as regional champions. The other four at-large bids went to Central Florida, Alabama, LSU and Memphis.
Ohio State finished 14th at the 2007 national championship and 12th in 2006. The Buckeyes were sixth in 2005 after placing 15th in 2004, seventh in 2003 and sixth in 2002. The Buckeyes earned a second-place finish in 2001 and placed sixth in 2000. Ohio State won the 1993 College Cheerleading National Championship.
The national competition will be televised by the ESPN networks and aired at a later date.

^^ That's great. OSU always does well at nationals. They've finished in the top 20 for 2 years, and were 6th in 2005.
I think everyone who's into cheerleading will be waiting to see if Kentucky gets back on top or if UCF can prove that their win wasn't a fluke (due to UK's major fall on their ending pyramid) and repeat.

I'm sure that Kentucky will be eager to regain the championship this year. It should be an outstanding competition.

I have followed it since college. My roommate during my Junior year was a cheerleader for 3 years. The squad competed in the nationals in Hawaii and won that year (1983). Since that time, she has built a company that trains cheerleading squads and dance teams and is quite successful. She has also established cheerleading scholarships at OSU.

WG All-Girls 3-Peat at UCA Championships
January 19, 2008 - The All-Girl squad continued their triumphant ways, as the ladies won their third straight UCA Championship Saturday afternoon at the Walt Disney Sports Complex in Orlando.
WG Coeds Win 7th Championship
January 19, 2008 - The dynasty continues, as the West Georgia Coed Cheerleaders took the stage Saturday, knowing that a bull’s eye was on their backs. The squad won, completing a weekend that saw both UWG teams bring home the hardware for the third straight year.
Since 2002, the UWG Coed cheerleaders have been the team to beat at the annual event, held at the Walt Disney World Sports Complex in Orlando, FL.
.....
The score would hold true, and the Coed squad would bring home a seventh consecutive UCA National Championship.
