I was raised by just my mom, so a lot about what I learned about personal appearance and style didn't develop until I got to college. An APO brother taught me how to shave properly. One of my Judies (good girl friends LOL) used to work at a clothing store, so she would help me shop for myself. And it helped that the non-chain retailers always gave you a deal.
I love my mom, but she's a bama, lol.... so that made my style go very conservative. I like dark colors for suits and white shirts. I wore my first red button up shirt last year, my first cream colored shirt two years ago. I was a poster boy for the IBM aesthetic!
I have more variety now....but when I purchase dressy clothes, I still like to shop with someone with a better eye than me.
