I second that one. The typing alone is terrible and that's BEFORE you get to the content that is in essence insulting a lot of us on here.

Why would it be insulting a lot of us on here? Are a lot of us of low morals and accustomed to hooking up with frat guys?
Sure, she's repeating a stereotype, but she's asking if it's true not assuming that it's true.
Methinks you are always calibrated to be offended.
I agree though that asking on here, if she is ever identified in real life with the thread, hurts rather than helps.

Just curious, but as competitive as "UA" is, jelly, you're really going to need to do your homework. I don't know a single thing about Alabama's rush, but I would think now would be a good time to start getting your letters of recommendation in order. If you don't know about those, go to the recruitment forum and do a search.
I applaud you for wanting to get this information, just don't be surprised when you ask a group of people whether it's true that they're 'snooty' that they might be a little offended.
It wouldn't hurt you to go through recruitment, you'd learn a lot even if you didn't get a bid. Really though, you need to contact your school's greek life office. They'll give you all of the information you need.
For that, here's the link to UA's Sorority Recruitment page. It looks like most of those questions are answered there for you.
http://bama.ua.edu/~greeklif/SororityRecruitment.html
Best of luck. If you do go through with Recruitment, keep us posted.

Kevin, you are completely correct.
And the information that you point out, which was kind of you to do, would seem to be so self-evident to anyone really thinking of rushing at Alabama as to make me wonder how one authentically could be participating in less than a month and really know so little about who is in the groups and what the groups are like.
If you catch my meaning. . .

Yeah, I don't really care though. Perhaps a legitimate recruit will read this thread and find the information helpful? Or perhaps jelly is completely on the level with us and this is her first time to post on an internet message board so she's not really aware of all of the unwritten social rules we have?
It doesn't really matter to me either way.

I understand, and had she not explicitly requested help from folks at Alabama, I'd be right there with you.
I don't mind taking a chance that I'd provide real information to a troll or sock-puppet. But if they only want UA folks, I'm not one.
I have my suspicions about the excellent quality of the women in the Greek system at Alabama being almost universal ( ETA: or at least higher than the statistical average whatever that might be) in terms of warmth, morality, and virtue, but I didn't learn it within the system.

I hate to hijack her thread, but if she follows the advice given, this won't matter.
Let's assume that your suspicions are correct and the OP is a troll. She asks a question which many deem to be rude/improper, etc. She would fully expect to receive snarky answers, right? Instead, we offer polite, helpful information which would help someone who was really in the OP's described situation if they did a search on this site or merely Googled "Recruitment" and "Alabama" together (this thread might actually pop up in the first few pages of such a search.)
Giving a straight answer covers your bases -- if she's real, then you've helped someone, if she's a troll, you're not feeding her. Win-win.

Well said!
If the op is legit, then she needs to get busy because Bama Recruitment is highly cometitive AND right around the corner. (YIKES! Where did the summer go?)
Jelly, all sororities and fraternities were founded on the high ideals and principles of scholarship, community service and sister/brotherhood. Bama is no different and we strive to achieve those. One easy example is the Spring 2007 All Greek Women's GPA was 3.18, All Independent Women's GPA was 2.96.
On any campus you will find both Greeks and non-Greeks who like to party and what not to excess as well as those who don't. Ironically enough I just gave this same advice to another poster. Never base any decision in your life on a stereotype because too often they are highly exaggerated or downright wrong. Always take the time to investigate something for yourself.
