Blah Blah Blah, Reg. I think BET needs to be included on the Hot Ghetto Mess website. It's best to examine yourself before you begin looking at others and telling them how to get their sh*t together...

WOMP WOMP Reginald or whatever his name is. He is full of crap. I like a little trashy tv myself but this is just too much and I won't be watching.

What on earth is he talking about "...erroneous presumption based on absolutely zero information." Folks clearly know and dislike the sentiments behind the website that inspired the show. They have confirmed that the premise of the show is keeping in line with the original website. Furthermore, the name of the show alone says it all. It isn't called "Black Fashions and Behaviors: An Introspective Look". It's called Hot Ghetto Mess. That's waaaay more than zero information.

I am so disappointed to hear this lame response from Reginald Hudlin. He summed it up for me when he made reference to the show appealing to BET's young audience. In essence he is implying that this is what the young audience wants to see so that is what they are going to air.

I also disagree with his statement that the series will promote dialogue and self-examination in an effort to strenghten the black community. That is bull! What vehicles for communication will BET offer after the show has aired?? It's not like they will be holding any townhall meetings to discuss the images and delve deeper into why people look and/or behave the way they do. I bet there will be little to no follow up on behalf of BET with regards to the images they will display on that show.

a. everyone over the age of 25 knows that young people dont want the right things. i will admit that at 19 or 20 i wanted a whole lot of things that were bad for me.
b. theres nothing wrong with making fun of fashion, etc. i watch it all the time on E! but there is never any derogatory remark made about it. it is always just a fashion mistake. it isnt racial either.

I would not say that all people under 25 don't want the right thing.

When I was 19 I wouldn't have supported this show. I don't want tot sound like I am the exception, but I know several under 25 individuals that want things that are good for them.

Ditto. I'm just barely closer to 25 than to 20 and I definitely see the huge ERROR in the creation of this show. At 19 or 20, I would've spent all day rallying my AA and Greek student body leaders to voice out against it, and forcing our newspaper eic to write on it.**

(true story: my best friend and I were campus editor and writer/copy-editor respectively, and we created such an uproar on campus for all sorts of 'racial craziness' that the Univ. President wanted to talk to us to listen to our ideas. )

**ETA: If my bf or I or another minority reporter wasn't already covering it. Still feel some kind of way about that.

Totally Off Topic But..

Has anyone seen Hell Date? This show is so dumb, and the people on there are dumb too. I would know whats going on as soon as the 'Hell Dater' started acting up. And whats with the midgets/little people (sorry if I offended anyone). But why are there little people dressed like the devil. Its hella stupid.

Oh and dont get me started on the crap with Tokara and Joe Torry. I dont know BET just needs to stop trying to be MTV and start trying to educate a lil bit more.
