I'm waiting before I invest in either HDDVD or BLURAY and since I have a Wii, not a 360 or a PS3 I'm not too caught up at the moment. That and I do not have, nor can I afford, a nicer TV.
This is the first major format war that I've been around for so I'm following with geeky interest.

Drole, you don't remember Beta?
I remember watching "Herself the Elf" (my favorite movie, next to Rainbow Brite) on Beta.
And I remember our teacher in school playing movies on a record-sized CD looking thing...I assume that's a laserdisc.

Nope. Betamax was introduced in 1975, w/ SuperBetamax coming out in 85. My parents only ever owned a VCR (that cost like 2000 dollars at the time!) so that's all I remember!
Laserdiscs aren't quite as old but are still mostly before my time. You still see some of those around though.
