A question about deferred recruitment

At Maryland, first semester freshmen can join a chapter if they have at least 12 credits (be they AP, community college, etc) and I think there is a minimum high school GPA set by each chapter if this is the case. I had 15 credits coming in and I always wonder what would have happened if I tried going through my first semester. I was clueless enough as it was when I actually did go through, so it probably would have been disastrous.

I do know of other schools where first semester freshmen can not go through recruitment regardless of credits.
