I would say two years because thats when ATT's exclusive contract with Apple ends. When you have T-mobile, Sprint, ETC all carrying iphones you will start seeing service pricing wars, especially since they will all be playing catch-up to ATT.

They're fine unless you actually have to talk to them. I've been on AT&T now for several years and they are far superior to what I had before (Sprint).

They don't offer Verizon in OKC, so I have no experience with that, but I've heard bad things. Also, they have proprietary phones with proprietary software which disables a lot of the phone's functionality.

iPhone hack enables wireless without AT&T
Posted by Robert Vamosi
Norwegian researcher Jon Lech Johansen, aka DVD Jon, has found a way to activate the iPhone via Windows without subscribing to an AT&T wireless plan. After using the hack, some Internet features, such as YouTube, may still not work. What you do get is use of the wide-screen iPod and Internet access through the Safari browser.

Okay, so it's been 2 months since the last post. . .

. . . and I want to know if anyone has since the beginning of this thread purchased an iPhone, especially since the prices have dropped. I must admit, I reallyreally want one, and since I didn't upgrade 3 months ago, may get the 4g one if there are any available at my local store.

Are your views still the same?

I have friends that have it. I don't have it, nor want it, and def don't like AT&T, so I would never. They like it, but are mad that the price dropped so much AFTER they bought it...

I was at the Apple store yesterday (getting the new iPod Touch)I saw at least 3 people who want the iPhone but weren't interested in the AT&T carrier. I heard some say that they like what it could do but didn't want to break thier contracts. One guy was upset because he thought that it was 16GB of memory on it and had it confused with the iPod touch (which looks almost exactly like the phone)

So...I would say...if you want the features w/o the phone (get it?) get the Touch...otherwise...get the phone and grit your teeth.

I swear, I think I'm the only person on the planet that's okay with AT&T's service. Well, let me say it this way: I was very pleased with Cingular, so we'll see what happens and just how much this will change now that they're AT&T. I remember when AT&T was "absorbed", so to speak, by Cingular several years ago, and many people weren't happy at all, because they swore that they had better service with AT&T than they did when they were forced to go with Cingular. But I've had Cingular for 7 and a half years now and have not had any problems.

I'm totally with you on that. I've had a few dropped calls with Cingular/ATT, but who hasn't. I get service everywhere I go except for one corner in my office and a 1/10 mile stretch on I-26.

I have the iPhone. I got the 4GB when they lowered the price a couple of weeks ago. Since I've been covered up with lots of recruitment stuff, I haven't had tons of time to play with it. But I use Mac and have always used Mac, so I love syncing things up between my laptop and phone. I haven't been bothered by some of the reported grievances - 6 steps to make a phone call or whatever. I guess I'll forever lose that extra second of my life, but that's ok.

My brother got one when they first came out at the high price. Apple offered him a "refund" in credit at the Apple store. Which is just fine with him since we use their stuff. He rolled the credit toward a new computer!

I was so upset during MacWorld when a 16Gb iPhone wasn't announced. I thought for sure it would happen. I am carrying around a miserable motorolla L2 phone and a 2nd generation iPod (when they had buttons) and I'm already on AT&T since they bought Cingular.....and I'm just waiting for an iPhone with a useable amount (16Gb) of storage capacity to come out & maybe exchange support too. Hopefully soon since so many people were let down by MacWorld (despite Time Capsule being the most amazing thing ever).

I had an iPhone and loved it for personal use......hated it for work. Got a Blackberry Curve and it is far better for what I have to do work wise. Getting emails, among other things, was much more convenient.

I bought an iPhone a few weeks ago with my tax refund. I like it and have no problems with it so far. I don't need it for work or anything like that. I just bought it to spoil myself and I like having an iPod. The map on the phone has definitely come in handy a few times already.

Too bad you got rid of your iPhone. Today it officially got Microsoft Exchange support, ability to be remotely wiped & other sercurity improvements (making it truly work friendly), AIM, and a number of other major improvements. Won't be available for a bit still, but is going to be amazing. Also, Apple said developers could give it VOIP capabilities, which for Touch users essentially turns it into an iPhone.

There simply aren't 5 reasons not to get an iPhone.
