Are DVDs ALREADY on their way out? It seems like they JUST came in, and it's just recently they stopped releasing every movie that came out in both DVD and VCR form.

DVD has barely been around 10 years and they are trying to kill the format...Blu Ray and HD DVD are supposed to give you better quality movies because of less compression.....
It gets technical beyond this but let me explain....
in order to get a theatrical movie on a regular sized DVD, it has to be compressed or 'squeezed' onto a DVD disk meaning you may experience a loss of quality picture and sound hence why some dvds have 4 and 5 disks
(like the lord of the rings extended edition where the main movie covers 2 disks alone)
Now putting a movie on Blu Ray or High Density DVD (HD DVD) means you can get everything that takes 4 or 5 disks to store all onto one or 2 disks and with little loss of quality.
here is the problem tho...Blu ray and HD DVD are duking it out betamax vs vhs stlye to see which will become the dominant form of next gen DVD watching...so dont rush out to get a player yet...not at least for another 3 years

the average person would stay broke trying to keep up with technology in their home...and now they are putting half that mess (ipods, navigation) into the cars too!!

it's practically being forced upon us...take HDTV now.....the FCC keeps trying to tell us that you 'need' to have one in your homes by 2000 whenever or else you wont be able to watch TV in analog anymore....I mean yeah...I have one (techno geek) and I have HD service but come on...gimmie some more HD channels please??

Uuuuhhh I hope no one thought I still have my tape player walkman that I got for Christmas in 1988.    Mine plays CDs only, lol.

aahhhhh....but just think how cool we thought CDs were in the day...no more popped or chewed up cassettes...no more flipping the sides...no more lengthy rewinds just to get to the end of the song...........
and then iPods came along and simplified it even more.....no more dragging a book filled with scratched and beatup disks.
Now all we gotta worry about is copyright protection.

Having stayed in the Fairmont Banff Springs in Alberta and gone skiing a couple of times at Whistler ( Whistler Blackcomb and the Fairmont Chateau)..........I must say.......you are out of your mind.

I think there is a conspiracy going on with TVs in my house. All of a sudden my TV doesn't want to pick up all the channels and it has sat in the same spot for years with the same cable. My brother's TV is going nuts as well as my mothers. I can see if we had TVs cased in wood w/ giant tubes or something.

I won't get them right away until 2-3 months after people try it. It's usually during the period where everyone complains that something doesn't work and have to return and fix (remember the motorola razrs, window vistas?) Usually after that all the upgrades and repairs are done and release more to the public.
Plus, I'm a not a big fan of touch screens, they go bad fast

oh, i have a feeling this is not one of those phones you can drop once or twice without seriously damaging...and the touch screen makes me nervous too...very handy to have but it just looks easy to break.

Touch screen looks cool, but does seems sketchy, like if you get a crack you wouldn't be able to use it anymore. I wouldnt buy an iphone now because it's not worth the price, especially if you cant insure it. Besides, the toys i have now are just as good. I can just glue my 30GB ipod and BlackBerry together and it'd probably be just as cool as an iphone.

Yeah......I just can't see myself using all of the features......ever. I have an 80gig video iPod that I only use in my car or on airplanes, never take it jogging or to the office, etc. As far as internet, email, etc......I can't imagine anything being better than the Blackberry.
