Sorry - I got multiple quote happy. I was just scanning posts for "brothel law." So edited.

My school has an all Greek dorm, but not all the houses are in it. Some houses are having issues with keeping numbers up to fill a floor, while other houses do have enough numbers, but have not been allowed to live there since the chapter is so new. And the administration feels that we (the new chapter) has to prove that we can keep our numbers up. So they have given us 1/2 of a floor in a regular dorm to fill up and we did, so hopefully they will let us move to the Greek dorm within the next year or two.
Where in PA (WHO DOES NOT HAVE A BROTHEL LAW) is this all-Greek dorm? I assume you're at a private school.

Good, I worry about the costs and where it is located.

Can they afford it?

Does this mean that all of the NPC sororities are now planning on building traditional sorority houses? For a while there was talk that 6 NPCs would build traditional houses and the rest would build townhouses or stay in the current situation. There are 14 NPCs, so are 13 building houses and one building something else? I hope they are all considering building actual houses. It never seems to work well when housing is inequitable.
Please, God, tell me that this isn't going to be a repeat of USC...

For those of us who might be a little lost on the USC housing situation, can someone enlighten us?

Yeah, we have a good relationship with the UT greek life, so that makes sense... Hopefully they learned from us.

Long story short, and without revealing confidential information, when USC decided to build houses, they didn't have enough sites for all sororities/fraternities. So now, 8 out of the 9 sororities on campus have big, beautiful, multi-million dollar houses that they hold recruitment out of.

I just hope that if UT does this, they do some long-range planning and make sure that the option is there for all sororities to build eventually.

All the NPC groups will build houses. The land has been set aside.

Good. I must've misunderstood the first post, then. I thought it was saying that only 14 were building.

From what I understand, AKA will have a nonresident facility, but all the NPC chapters will have houses. I think ours will sleep 25-30.

From what I remember, USC promised that there would be sites available for any GLO that wanted to build (they may have been planning on a different area though). Somehow, they have found space for a lot of new houses in the Greek Village. In fact, the 9th sorority is building and may be through or close to finishing (not sure what they are doing for rush if they are not in their house yet). Not all groups were ready to build when the Greek Village came about, and some, realistically, either would not be ready for a long time or would never be able to build. Some of the older groups were even having to scurry to find $$, so it wasn't about size or longevity. Greek Life had been talking about building houses for 20+ years, so I guess everyone thought they were crying wolf!

The thing that bugged me was that Greek Life asked our opinions and just dismissed them. They were determined to have the antebellum mansions. A lot of us thought that a huge meeting room with a kitchen and maybe some bedrooms for the key officers would be sufficient, less costly, and easier to "sell" to the members. Oh, well. The Greek Village is a beautiful addition to USC's campus, but IMO a similar effect could have been obtained without the huge outlay of $$.

The cost does worry me. The price tag for our house is $2 million, and some are twice that. I'm afraid this will put Greek life out of reach for many girls.

You and I have a much different opinion of what went on, for obvious reasons...

Just keep in mind that you weren't a part of our house corp meetings and we weren't part of yours.

But I believe that we've had this discussion before, so let's not hijack the original thread...

You must be thinking of someone else. I went to UT, not USC, and I graduated way back in 1989. I've never been to an HC meeting. I haven't posted here in a long time. All I know is what my chapter's newsletter tells me and the article my paper ran last Sunday. Plus, some of the UT chapters have info about the houses on their Web sites.
