PLUS, here are some helpful hints dealing with spam and other unwanted emails:
Have one personal email address and one "internet" email address -- by that I mean your personal one can be the one that goes on your calling cards, sorority/fraternity email list, church list, etc -- anything where you KNOW the people maintaining your email address.
Anything where your email address has to be entered to register for something (message boards, commercial sites) use your "internet" address. You NEVER really know what happens to your email address when you give it to a commercial site -- it could be sold or used for spam.
Also, never type out your personal email address and place it on the web in guestbooks or blogs and whatnot. There are still webcrawlers that harvest email addresses for spam.
