I don't think the Catholic Church has turned vegan on us. They don't consider "kill' to include "roadkill" On a sad note though, I did see a squirrel that was crawling across the road on it's front legs. It must have been hit. It was the most disturbing thing I've seen and I avoided it but seriously considered going back and running it over to put him out of his misery.

I had the same experience with a possum. I'm not an big animal rights-er or possum fan, but it was heartbreaking to see this creature struggling for life and in pain. I still remember it vividly, and it's been about 10 years. I called my dad and asked him to come and shoot it because I had the same thoughts about putting it out of its misery. He rightfully declined seeing as this was a suburban street and all.

ETA: In light of the topic of the thread, maybe we should note that if you can't safely avoid hitting a wild animal, swerve to kill. (With an animal likely to be a pet, I'd say really try to avoid, but if you do hit it, try to find its owners so they might get vet treatment. Sorry for being creepy but that possum haunts me. I know it's ridiculous.)

no its not ridiculous, it's the right thing to do. right after I got my driver's license, I hit a squirrell going down a steep mountain side road by my house... there wasn't anywhere to go... and I remember my mom's words of... if you can't safely swerve... just hit it because its not worth your life. anyway, So I hit this squirrell and it like ricochetted off my tire over the mountain side... i'll never forget watching fly through the air.... eek.

The list made me laugh, but it's pretty good if you think about it.

I think they show good insight.

And I felt extremely guilty the first time I killed a squirrel with my car. My brother was in the car with me and we screamed "ARGH! We killed a squirrel!" in a very distressed tone of voice.

The young woman who is the technical director for many of the shows I direct swerved to avoid hitting a small animal on one of our freeways, rolled and totaled her car.

Fortunately, she was not badly hurt.

Sorry, but I don't think I'll injure myself or others riding with me to protect the life of a rabbit.

By the way, is the Popemobile street legal?

I dunno, I think there's a new one now anyway. Didn't Benny almost get jumped on by some guy in the crowd? JP's Popemobile was a bubble. In fact I'm pretty sure The Daily Show did a spoof of the Trouble game with the "pop-o-matic" bubble.

/got nothin

I think it is, only because if there is an accident, they are able to rush the Pope to the hospital in it. But that makes me wonder if they need to have a special exemption for the seat belt laws when he is driving through the crowds...
