Stomp the Yard was one of the worst films I've seen in a long time. I heard all the negative stuff about it but I held off judging it. I rented it for $1 and watched it with my wife. Aside from the erroneous depiction of Black Greek Life in so many ways,it was very disjointed and the acting was stilted.

I saw the DVD. All I can say is summa dem boys can run up Stone Mountain to practice stompin' anytime they want... I was mad because they weren't naked...
The post production notes had it where they did 3-4 weeks of rehearsal and practice. One of the choreographers was a Kappa. But most of the moves were dance moves vs. true step moves. They made up the stuff about organizations for the "storyboard".
But, if they were really trying to "pledging" them, then TNT should have gotten out in orange jumpsuits and help Habitat for Humanity at 100 F. Or at least pick up freeway trash... I would have even gone for them dressing up like "Napoleon Dynamite" for prom and dance with the old ladies at the old folks home. But, just rehearsing for 3-4 weeks 75% dance moves, well a fraternity it does not make...
At least they were smart about the Mu Gamma's and avoid playing "Atomic Dog". They would have gotten their asses whooped, bigtime... It would have not been a joke.

I rented it this weekend too. I rolled my eyes at some stuff, but I did like it a little bit.

I thought about renaming it "Stomp the DVD." I am a movie buff. I generally don't watch American studio films; I prefer indie and foreign films. Give me a Pedro Almadovar film any day!

Frankly, it wasn't that good, either.

I was aaaaaaaaaaight for a fake depiction of greek life. However, the eye candy is that movie was, whew, somebody open the window, its getting a little hot up in here.

Well as the last person on GC to see this movie, I guess I'll throw in my 2 cents.
I really don't think anyone will walk away with the impression that this movie is an semblance of black greek life - quite frankly because I doubt if they could get past the bad acting and storyline of the movie. I know I couldn't. Shoot, the dancing was about the only semi-interesting part of the movie.
Megan Goode really needs to step up her acting game. I'm getting really tired of her ALWAYS playing somebody's girl. I mean, I know roles are scarce in Hollywood but seriously, I think this is one of the reason why I don't like her as an actress - you can pretty much predict her reactions in scenes by now.

The only reason I watched it was because my boyfriend was an extra in the movie.

It was okay but I didn't like the way it made us look like stepping is at the center of everything we do and getting into our organizations is all about how well you can step or dance. I didn't like that at all. IMO, the creators/directors/producers wasted their opportunity to positively counter the stereotypes in "School Daze" and really show those who know nothing or very little about NPHC greeks, what we're really about. I think the movie could have still been entertaining even with scenes of the greeks performing community service, hosting an educational program or two, etc. They could have done a much better job at showing the whole picture while still focussing on the stepshow competition at the end of the movie. I'm a Writer so as soon as I saw the movie, all of these ideas popped into my head about how I would have changed and presented some things. And it doesn't take a genius to come up with what I did. I went to see the movie when it first came out and I'm still answering questions like "How well do you have to step to get into a sorority or fraternity?" Bottom line: The makers wasted a good opportunity to show the world who we are and to dispel the myths.
