Military blood typing
Honeychile, my father was incorrectly typed all his years in the Air Force. He found out only when admitted for back surgery - my brother went to donate blood and discovered he was NOT the same type as dad. We shudder to think what would have happened in the 60s if he had needed a transfusion - tell your brother to get over his bad self and get re-typed!

From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely thank you! My brother insists that the Army wouldn't have mistyped a combat soldier, but there's just no way he could be AB- ! You are just too sweet for giving me the ammunition (no pun intended!) to push him to be retyped! Thank you, thank you!

O+.
As an RN, I am giving blood products constantly to my fresh hearts (bypass patients) so I know the need for donors! Just last week, we had 4 emergent surgeries over the weekend... we went through so many blood products that weekend!

AB+ 3%
That's me. I donate plasma now. It's good because it's universal.
Quote:
What is Plasma?
Plasma is the fluid portion of blood -- the river which transports red blood cells, white cells and platelets through the body to nourish and protect tissues and organs. This pale yellow liquid is also rich in minerals and substances which help control bleeding.

Why is There a Special Need for AB Plasma?
In addition to being the rarest blood type (only about 3 percent of the population has type AB blood) AB plasma is the universal plasma type. AB plasma can be safely given to patients with any blood type.

I used to work @ a blood bank. I miss those free post-donation donuts

O Negative, the universal donor, but lately my blood has been going straight to wounded soldiers (hopefully) since I donate through the Armed Services Blood Program. I tried doing the plasma thing once, but that actually made me faint, which didn't make sense to me since the non-plasma portion of my blood was being pumped back into me.

It's been known to happen. Last Saturday I had to take a long nap in the afternoon after I gave a double.
