uhhh...is this a drama or comedy? i'm really trying to give it a chance, but i feel like i'm watching a scene/scenes from "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" with the crackhead storyline...also, Tyler P. sure is obsessed with "The A"....but the references they make are wayyyyyyyy off....like, if she was going to be a crackhead, I'd imagine she'd be hangin' out on Stewart Ave, not Ponce de Leon....

Needs work. I watched my first episode last night. The uncle was very funny to me. His jokes were fresh in that I hadnt seen them in a sitcom before. The concept is good. That family could be one that I would know. But the crackhead wifes over acting, and the aunt's overacting and timing needs work. There is something weird about the space the aunt keeps between herself and others. It makes sense in plays but on television it looks weird. Overall, I'd watch it again.

I feel like all of his plays and movies are colliding into House of Payne all at once. When are we going to leave crackheads alone? Is that the only problem we can focus on? Why does the son have to be such a mama's boy? Why can't his aspirations as well as his execution be higher in life? (I know, I know that I am overanalyzing his role/character, etc.)

I noticed that as well last night.
So the aunt and uncle are from Madea Goes to Jail. The mom is from Meet the Browns and the little girl is from Daddy's Little Girls. Wonder who will emerge next?

Why the crackheads gotta hang on the Southside? Crackheads can be anywhere, and if you've driven on a side street near Ponce or been to the Masquerade on a Friday, you know there are some crackheads around the area. Besides, you know "they" (I don't know who "they" is) renamed Stewart Ave, and it's now Metropolitan.
I agree with finding another vice (food addiction, shopping/gambling when there's no spare money, internet addiction [they could research that on GC...]). Drugs are definitely still a terrible addiction, but it's played.
PS I can't bring myself to watch it. I may try it again, but I initially gave it a show by watching two eps when it was first shown. Never impressed me.

^^^ Although I recognize that Bankhead was renamed Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy for a prominent civil rights attorney who actually played a great role in the Civil Rights Movement, I still know that it's Bankhead.
Let Tyler Perry go all the way back with Atlanta references by mentioning "The Omni". LOL

This one may not last. This show needs work because the actors are still acting for the stage. They are not acting for tv. And I was disappointed that the wife's "problem" was crack (come on Tyler, not again). I was kind of hoping that she had a shopping or gambling problem. Those are real problems too that break up families.
I'm sick of the obsession with this city period. Wasn't born there but spent every summer of my childhood there. Bankhead? the Omni? don't I remember

I agree, it seems to me like they are looking out at the audience sometimes waiting for someone to say, "I know that's right!" or "Well!"
Personally, I think it's too soon to be presenting folks with the "crack head" story line. As one person mentioned on here, is this going to be comedy or drama??? Give us a chance to get to know the characters and give them a little more identity other than the plays since he doesn't seem to be introducing more characters. It's nice to know that even Tyler Perry watched the Barbara Walters interwiew with Whitney Houston, but he should come up with some originality because we all know that "crack is wack" and the average "crack head" probably will not be able to produce a receipt thanking the customer for their most recent purchase from a man named "Blue".
The show really does seem to have a lot of potential, but there are some gaps. I would have thought that a movie would be harder to create than a sitcom, but it seems his movies are much better. Perhaps, he should stick with the silver screen.
Bye, love yawl!

I agree with you on this one. They also need a live audience because it seems so dry. Tyler really needs to venture out on other problems that can be stressfull on a family other than somebody cheating or being on drugs. I don't know I about this show; I still hope that it does well and proves me wrong but I really don't see it lasting. Hopefully my opinion will change as it grows.

Exactly. What is a METROPOLITAN PARKWAY?! It is Stewart Avenue, the exit right before Sylvan Avenue. SWATS!

I liked the next 2, but they needed to be a part 1 and 2. Tyler can't keep ending the episodes with unfinished business if they aren't connected. The last one was the only one that ended decently for me. And I saw the crack from a mile away, I figured out something of that nature was wrong from the first episode when Janine was acting funny. It's starting to change and be a bit more like a sitcom to me. Heading in the right direction;now, we just need some momentum.

I remembered it came on tonight. It's still being over-acted as if it's on stage. I'm still a little iffy about it in the first fifteen minutes. I think Curtis' character needs to be toned down a bit. He's just plain old mean and becoming irritating.
This anger "facilitator" is pretty funny though.
