I realized it was a no-win situation; I was an ROTC cadet, and therefore a nerd by default, and I wasn't quitting ROTC for nobody; I loved it too much. As a matter of fact, I moved halfway through my junior year, and was supposed to attend another school--uh, not a chance! I had a little holla with the principal and he helped keep me at my original school for ROTC without having to go through any lottery programs or any other nonsense like that.
When I got promoted to C/2Lt. on May 17, 1990, it was like crossing the sands to a frat, I felt like I had "arrived. But I digress...
FWIW, I made Homecoming King, which set a major precedent (perhaps the only instance) in that I was an ROTC cadet and was never involved in any athletic activities; my thing was strictly ROTC and entertainment (read: choir and drama club).
Hope this helps.

My parents THREATENED me with tutoring my freshman year when i was making "good" grades... but then when i dropped to making "O.K." grades they left me alone. WEIRD parents... but i guess everything worked out well. or averaged well enough.

come on yall im at work! i cant even giggle man withouth it being looked at funny.
i was #4 out of 120. the 3 above me, we were all friends... until the rankings came out. senior year was pretty interesting... seeing as how the guy in the #3 spot was an uber cheater all 4 years (guess it paid off - full scholarship to Brown), #2 went to some local random college (she was the only one who was actualy smart but her mom wanted her close to home) and #1, well she pulled a suicide and only applied to Columbia cause she was SO sure she'd get in.
well, she got waitlisted. and she became a total b!tch and had every teacher, incl. the principal to write letters to admissions. which didnt really work. and then word got around that her father didnt have the $ for Columbia anyway... so she went to St. John's, which is a great school, for NYC anyway. but all sorts of ppl went to STJ from my high school, incl. this girl who graduated with 2 kids and wasnt ever really a poster child of academic excellence. so she felt kinda shamed by that i guess?
anyway, she's now a Theta Phi Alpha and i figured hey! she's greek too! and tried to get in touch with her, and her big was like "oh, ill pass her info to you but she's not good with returning phone calls."
so yeah. but i digress.

I graduated in the top 10% of my class #23 out of 280+. I was also a member of the Spanish National Honor Society, voted "Best ALL AROUND" by my Senior Class, and Homecoming Queen along with my then boyfriend/now hubby as the King

I was number 5 in a class of 232 (I think that was the number..) Only 3 AA members and I was the highest. Class of 2001
I'm not even sure what happened to our salutitorian. After graduation, the rumor was that she turned down a scholarship b/c she didn't like her roommate and then went to a community college.
Most if not all of the top 10 are college graduates and working hard!!

I was #8 out of 366 (I think 366). I was #6, but that F in AP English dropped me right on down. To this day, I still hate Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
I was in National Honor Society, president of the Beta Club, SGA, and Spanish Honor Society.
What's interesting is that I really don't know what happened to most of the top 10. We just don't keep in touch, but I know the valedictorian and her best friend in the top 10 had a huge falling out during college. They went to different colleges. Valedictorian had always wanted to be an XYZ and became an XYZ. Her best friend always talked about ABC, but they were suspended for years. Therefore, best friend jumped on an undergrad resurrection line for XYZ that was brought in by the grad chapter. The last time I saw them together, they were icier towards each other than the coldest Alpha. That's icy.
Yes,...I digressed all over the topic.
