As a GC old-timer, I agree with the advice my fellow old school GCers have provided so far.
Thank you, AKA2D'91 for starting this thread. I really hope the newbies learn something from it!

Also, if you're looking into NPHC, not spesifically a research book, but I would surely add Freshman Focus by Carla Sarratt to your reading list.

Although we live in a time where ALL of one's personal business is made public, just know that IT'S OKAY to NOT post ALL of your business, SORORITY OR FRATERNITY based on MBs, in emails, and such.
We don't need NOR want to know everything. Discretion begins BEFORE you become a member of an organization and continues after you become a member. Hopefully, your mother, father, or guardian taught you about keeping your mouth shut (sometimes) wayyyyy back when.

Newbies, the more you write, the more we learn about you and your behavior. Tone and language can be interpreted by what you write. A profiler can identify you based on what you write and we can find your IP addresses.
Besides, I relish training in picking apart arguments. It helps me with my career...
