I went to two inter-Greek events at area colleges during my Freshman year. Since St. Wilona's didn't recognize Greek life, I had to network where I could. I found a member of Mr. Marcus who would become my initial contact into their world. Although I was still friends with other members, he was the first guy I would meet from the city-wide chapter.
He was a nice guy. We chatted from time to time.
I did service with Mr. Marcus. Went to social events with Mr. Marcus. Loved the history of Mr. Marcus.
But you know what? I just didn't like the members OR the other aspirants very much. At all.
So..... I said to hell with Mr. Marcus. I was really disappointed in myself for discontinuing my pursuit, but if Mr. Marcus didn't fit, I couldn't force it! I took a break from NPHC fraternities and focused on having the best life I could at St. Wilona's. That meant being active in the Black Student Alliance and NAACP, founding the St. Wilona's Step Team, and even pledging Alpha Phi Omega during my Sophomore year. After a while, the sting of my freshman year disappointment was a distant memory, and I was so busy with everything else, that I would have been happy if I NEVER pledged a black fraternity....
Until Senior Year.....
