There you go!!!! Another crappy show that is going to draw the wrong crowd or at least the wrong people to our organizations. This isn't Greek life. This is another crappy TV show by people who were probably rejected by every Fraternity or Sorority they ever attempted to be involved with. Be ready for the hail storm of questions from the incoming freshmen and be on the look out for posers who mimic what they see on TV actually thinking that ABC family is the authority on Greek Life. Every greek on every campus is going to have to work that much harder to find the people who were born to be Greek but didn't know it....
AND FOR THE RECORD I HATE WHEN PEOPLE USE SIGMAS AS THE LETTER E....

Or vice versa when people denote a frat like Sigma Chi as EX...
But anyways more importantly this the classic script from the 90s. The hot sorority president probably gets involved with the nerdy roommate, the awkward boy trying to join a fraternity and meets the hot girl, etc etc. So cliche it's disgusting. Does anybody remember that awful show on MTV that was basically the Real World but at some sorority house in Davis? I forget what it was called goodness.

Wasn't it called Greek Life. There was a Fraternity on it as well a different season. The chapter they did was at UC Santa Cruz and it was a difunct Sigma Chi chapter that changed their name to Sigma Chi Omega. They used Sigma Chi's flag and everything the only difference was that the flag had the words Sigma Chi Omega across the bottom in white block letters.

MTV's Fraternity and Sorority Life
Actually, there were 3 seasons of Sorority Life and 2 seasons of Fraternity Life.
Season One of Sorority Life featured the sisters of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi (SAEPi), Jewish-interest sorority at UC-Davis. This season wasn't so bad, IMO.
Season Two of Sorority Life included Delta Xi Omega, a local sorority at the University of Buffalo. Season One of Fraternity Life also began here with Sigma Chi Omega. Discussion of these trainwrecks are here.
Then Fraternity Life 2 happened. Unfortunately, Delta Omega Chi members at UC-Santa Cruz were accused of stealing and possibly grilling Goldie, the beloved campus koi.
The University of Southern California prohibited MTV's cameras on campus to film Sorority Life 3, which was set to include the sisters of Zeta Sigma Phi. Despite one of my HS classmates being an active sister during this season, I didn't bother watching it past the first episode.

To be clear, the local Sigma Chi Omega (SUNY-Buffalo not UC Santa Cruz. Delta Omega Chi was the local at UCSC) "featured" in MTV's 'Fraternity Life' was never associated with Sigma Chi International Fraternity. They were/are a local that petitioned Sigma Chi International Fraternity to become a chapter. The petition was denied prior to MTV's involvement (i.e. taping and airing of the show).
Currently, the local Sigma Chi Omega has retained blue and gold as their colors as well as the white rose for their flower. It is my understanding that anything else that might be associated with Sigma Chi International Fraternity is no longer used by the local. This may or may not be the result of potential litigation by Sigma Chi International Fraternity on (toward?) the local Sigma Chi Omega.

"Hey!! you're in Kappa Sigma, right? The one with the 'K' and the 'E'???"
Uh.. no, actually, its a K and a Sigma, which is S.
"oh, well, you know what i Mean, it looks like an E"
Not really. Epsilon looks like an E. For an example, go look at the Tau Kappa Epsilon House. That is an E.
"whatever. It still looks like an E."
okay, we're done.

Funniest thing I've read all day. That reminds me of story a friend of mine told me about a freshmen girl who got lost on campus near Delta Upsilon, who while on her cell phone said that she was "in front of the Triangle Pineapple Tree house."

So true. And I especially love when people think that Sigma Kappa = Kappa Sigma.

New ABC show
I actually didn't get to see the show until today (thank you Tivo!) and I really have mixed feelings on it. On the one hand, I like the basic plot line. On the other hand, it shows a skewed portrayal of Greek life (although not as skewed as others I've seen). It basically takes the media's ideas of Greek life and throws in a little bit of truth. It also portrays fraternity life in a more positive way than how they show sororities: portraying the usual "bitchy, stuck up, stupid" sorority life that we've come to expect from the media.
Part of me feels upset that it's just another portrayal from outside of the Greek community that is going to add to the negative stigma we've already got, but part of me wants to give it a chance and hope that it will actually do some good...

Oh! Another big plus, even if she plays the foil to Casey on this show, the new "it" girl- Rebecca is Pakistani.
That greatly pleases me. She was probably one of the better actresses during that whole show!

Portrayed fraternities in a more positive way?? It showed us as a bunch of drunk, partying, idiots who cheat on our girlfriends, are closet cases, haze, and insensitive louts.
The members of my chapter would never.....wait, Ricky did cheat on his girlfriend with her sorority sister.
Well, the Tekes on my campus would never.....wait, there were those rumors about Jon and Glenn.
Okay, the Sig Eps at ASU would never....oh, I almost forgot, they lost their charter for hazing and then (alledgedly) burned down their house so no one else could have it.
The Pikes would never.....yeah, they were known as the Country Club boys.
Never mind.

Amen! I soooooo sick of shows like this...At least in some movies such as "Legally Blonde" and "Old School" are comedies, and the craziness of Greek Life is protrayed as a joke. I acutally get a laugh out of those movies. But when something is given a tagline of a "drama" and mispresents Greek Life like that it makes me sick!

The lead girl is Spencer Grammer -- Kelsey's daughter.
She also played Dr. Lucy Montgomery on As The World Turns (for us ATWT fans). I never liked her then so I don't know if I'll like her character in this one.
