I think I might leave town this weekend with the thousands of people who will probably show up this weekend to remember Falwell.

Maybe we can finally have our city back from the Moral Majority...

Very sad. I never did like the man and I despise most of his politics, however, I think his heart was in the right place. He did build Liberty into a powerful institution in a very short period of time.

I'm with you there! Normally Liberty's graduation puts a lot of this town into traffic gridlock, but this weekend will be even worse I think. Good thing they moved Thomas Road Baptist Church nearer to campus...keeps the traffic a little more in one location. Newt Gingrich is scheduled to speak at commencement.

I'm just going to hide out at home.

Guess I better go to Target this afternoon before Wards Road becomes gridlocked.

I'm not a fan of the man AT ALL. He was notorious as a poor tipper (and big eater) when I was a waitress, and the way he brainwashes people irks me to no end. A large number of people who go to his school seem to worship him more than God. I don't think Jerry Jr. has the charisma that his dad had, and Jonathan doesn't have the smarts. Hopefully Liberty will go back to being a tiny Bible college. It'd sure make living here a lot better!

i can't say i'm saddened by his passing because of the nature of his views and what he's said in the past, but i guess he stood by his convictions and there's something to be said for that. regardless, i hope he's at peace now.

Was I the only one shocked to see how much weight he gained???

I'm betting Jim Bakker isn't crying over this one.

Are they still a majority now that there's one less of them?

May his hell be an eternity spent at a Scissors Sisters' backstage aftershow party...

I always liked the bumper sticker:

"The Moral Majority Is Neither."

That being said, he did stick to his beliefs -- although they were a little too stringent for me.

May he rest in peace.

Rest in Peace, indeed. While I didn't agree with some of his beliefs, he did give a voice to people who aren't interested in the more liberal agenda.

33 - when I heard that he had gone to breakfast with someone yesterday, and the man wanted to tell him something, my first thought was "do you really want to eat that two pounds of bacon?"

I saw a quote on LJ asking who would protest Phelps' funeral

The consensus, Drag Queens doing a kick line.

this is classic. i'm sure jerry falwell would be thrilled that in death he was being labelled a "fag-enabler." also, your poster = brilliance.
