i read this book last year. i am glad i rented it from the library, instead of buying it. the general message that i got out of the book is that the writer thinks sororities are outdated and not needed anymore. a lot of people say that her book is unbiased, but she didn't really focus on anything positive. the few positive things that she did mention briefly was quickly countered by a negative. for example when she wrote about the chapters philanthropy, but then quickly adds that they only do it once a year and that they don't do any real work, but just make donations. if she knew how much work went into those events she would understand why they are only put on once a year. as for the money, we work hard to raise it, and i for one am proud to donate it. the other thing that kind of bothered me was her assuming that all the minority members were accepted on a "token" basis. so the only reason i was excepted by my chapter was because of my african american heritage and not my character or personality. good to know. the thing that really bothered me was her putting organizations rituals in her book. she's not a member of any of those organization so she doesn't think their ritual is important, or doesn't care. regardless she should have had a little more respect. well i guess i am done with my late night ranting. feels good to finally get that off my chest!
