How the heck is Sanjaya going to perform a Tony Bennett song?

His continued presence on the show is undoing any credibility the show had built.

I can't imagine the producers would let him stay to the final 3? Don't you think they'd "fix" the vote to get him off before then?

Remember how long John Stevens stayed? He was just as bad. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of Sanjaya.

Dude, I swear I walked past him on the street on my way home from work on Tuesday. It kind of scared me that I recognized him.. but it was the bright red hair. I wonder if he goes to Berklee or Northeastern.

There's also talk about the show doing what Pop Idol (its British predecessor) did -- cancellign. Cowell won't produce a show that doesn't pick talent. Like Pop Idol, he'll change it to X or whatever, and make it so just the judges vote, ensuring actual talented people win...

Sanjaya is beyond awful. I don't even find him endearing like other people do. Blah!

KD, they should make American Idol like the Grease show...
let the audience vote, but then have a "sing off" for the bottom two
and let the judges make the final choice each week.

Rock Star does that too... the audience votes, there's a bottom 3, and they have to each perform... then the judges (the band they're auditioning for) choose who goes and who stays. I think it's a great idea, and I don't know why AI doesn't do that.

That is a good idea, especially since the judges don't actually have any judging to do once AI gets to the semifinals - all they do is give feedback.

It's not a completely foreign concept to 19E... they did this for So You Think You Can Dance? for the first 5 weeks or so and then switched to the audience only vote after all the crappy folks left.
