That's just silly, and a really really bad "out".
So now the chapter will have new sliding zeta #'s based on people being bad/expelled? Hey we had 764 guys, now we are back to 645, hope nobody gets suspended this year.... here are your new numbers.....712, you are now 699...
Now to all of a sudden make a new total chapter member # assignment in a national publication and you have to call them to find out that the numbers have new values is just about the dumbest thing I have ever heard from a record keeping standpoint.
Bottom line- dumb idea, but even dumber if you post it and then never denote you are doing it, or even worse, they just made that excuse because they used a spreadsheet that was corrupted.
(shakes head in disbelief about this) I just got this in the mail today- so now I know what you are all talking about

Waaaiiiiiiiittttttt a second.
Boz, let me get this straight. Are saying that if someone flunks out, is expelled or is not active, they lose their Zeta #?
Lenoxxx is right on target with his post.
I was under the impression that once you were initiated, it was a lifetime thing? I can see if you are officially thrown out of the fraternity, maybe. But even then.

Statutory Code
Code VI-22. Numbering of Initiates. Each initiate shall be assigned a Zeta number upon completion of initiation. The series of Zeta numbers for each Chapter/Colony shall start with one and continue upward regularly without interruption. There shall be no changing of Zeta numbers after they have been reported to the Office of Administration as a part of the initiate's biographical record, and the Zeta numbers shall remain on the roll of the Chapter/Colony in cases of death, resignation, and expulsion, and never be reassigned.

Absolutely hilarious in my opinion
next thing you know, Captain America will be resurrected and they wont count the issues he got killed and was dead in (sigh)
The comic book collector in me is appaled at this lack of respect for an orderly numbering system!

What do you mean Leno, remember the "death" of Superman? Comics do it all the time.
Thank you Jono for the citation to LXA law.
So, what can we conclude from all of this???

Thank you Brother Jono!
A perfect, reasonable, logical, and clear explanation. I am ZU-384. Death will not change that fact.
Nor will failure of any Brother to pay their dues, rent, or other obligation of membership change that fact. They just are not members in good standing any longer.
Oath Takers...Oath Breakers. No Longer Brothers. But They Keep Their Dishonored Zeta Number. Sort of a Scarlet Letter.
Wow! So simple....

Mike Raymond

So Simple and so true!
We used to have # 3. He was expulled and while listed is not considered a Brother.
I wish I could find Him and get him reinstated as he really was a good Brother, he just screwed up as we all do!
Long story and PM me if interested!
Now, I still wonder why there is not a constant update?

So even if a brother is officially kicked out of LXA, by however it is done, he retains his zeta #?

Brothers,
Just to be sure I checked my copy of the 1930 Directory. Sure enough, Warren A. Cole was listed as AZ#1. Along with: * Resigned!
Others were noted as dead, missing, and expelled....
