Gross-I wouldn't go to a bar that only uses cold water, at least if thats all I knew they used. The bar I used to work at used hot water & detergent & then let them dry before being used again.

Don't these places have dishwashers? I don't think I've ever gone to a bar where the glasses weren't washed in a nice, hot, steaming dishwasher.

I'd call the county health department on every one of those places. I don't care if it's mean...you know how many germs and diseases you can get from that kind of stuff. Especially from just rinsing bar glasses in cold water. Oral herpes anyone?
I went to a cafe near where I work and they have a salad bar. There were flies around the salad. Ew. I saw two of the people who worked at the cafe just standing around talking to each other. I told them about their fly problem. One of the guys said without even looking over at me, "Yeah, we're working on it" and then went back to talking with his co-worker. I called the health inspectors that day. You don't want to mess with me when it comes to food cleanliness! I'm a stickler for it.
There's a TV station in Atlanta that goes around inspecting all the local restaurants. It's awesome. They also post the health inspection ratings on their website. I always go to that website before going to a new restaurant.

EE-BO,
I appreciate your tolerance with the mentally handicapped guy. It was pretty gross, and I'm glad you got a new bag.
(It'd be helpful if the place trained him not to do that, but so few places seem willing to work with the mentally handicapped that I'm glad you didn't complain about him.
I have an uncle who falls in that category and it's difficult for the group he works with to get contracts and there are even some businesses that don't want to have the group visit too often as guests or shoppers. They don't outright discriminate, but they aren't at all helpful.)
You shouldn't have to tolerate contaminated food bags though. I'm certainly not saying that.

You may not notice it, but a lot of bars take the glasses, rinse them & put them right back out to dry-especially if its a busy night! Rinsing them in cold water though, thats not something I can wrap my mind around. At least the detergent cleans those glasses somewhat.

During a roadtrip, we stopped by in Mississipi McDonald's. So, I saw this one server come out of the stall and leave the washroom without washing her hands. It has to be the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. We didnt end up ordering.

I have plastic bags at the store and to get them open, I have to lick fingers or they will not open at all!
Got this hint from a little blue hair old lady!
No, I do not spit or blow into them!

Not all bars have that luxury.
When I worked as a bartender, we had the three sinks filled with water. First sink had hot water, detergent, and the scrubby things sticking up. Second sink was used to rinse. Third sink was for the final rinse. After that the glasses are left to dry. If we had time, we'd wipe em dry. That method was used for the buckets and tall glasses because the majority of the time, people use straws to drink out of them.
Wine glasses and widths (draft glasses) are taken to the kitchen to be scrubbed with because mouths actually touch the glass.
I don't think I would have worked well with a dishwasher. Those things take a while to wash and dry and I'm sorry, you just don't have time for that on a busy Friday night...especially when the bar's packed and you're running out of glasses.
I did what I could to make sure that all glasses were clean. If people are so anal about not having them washed better, then drink beer out of the bottle. Better yet, don't come to my damn bar and drink at home.
