Cheerleader U
It follows the 16 time UCA National Champion University of Kentucky cheerleading squad from tryouts to Nationals in Orlando. I figured I'd make a thead about it since I know alot of people on here watched Cheerleader Nation on Lifetime when it was on.
It airs Wednesdays @ 10 on WE.

We have 15 National Championships!
The University of Kentucky Cheerleading Squad
No other college cheerleading squad has dominated the Universal Cheerleaders Association National Championships like the team from Kentucky.
The UK squad has won UCA's National College Cheerleading Championship an unprecedented fifteen (15) times, in 1985, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006 - more than any other Division 1A school. UK's squad is the only team to win back to back championships twice, once in 1987 and 1988 and again in 1995 and 1996. Further, UK is the only squad ever to win three, four, five, six, seven and eight championships in a row.
UK's eight year streak of championships was broken in 2003 when they finished runner up to Central Florida. They regained the title in January, 2004 and won their third straight in 2006. Central Florida regained the championship in 2007 when UK finished in third place.
The UK Cheer Program is recognized in cheerleading circles as perhaps the finest cheer program in America as the squad has placed first 15 times and placed second four times in the National Championships. The squad also generates vocal support and significant enthusiasm for some of the finest athletic programs in the nation. The Wildcat basketball team is the winningest college basketball program in the nation and has won the NCAA National Championship seven times! In December, 1999, the Wildcat football team made its second consecutive bowl appearance.
The squad receives substantial media exposure. Having finished in the top ten every year since the existence of the UCA National College Championships, each year the UK squad is seen on the ESPN televised Championships Program, which airs at least eight times nationally. In addition, the UK squad is seen on television as every UK basketball game is televised and a national or regional audience sees the majority of games. The squad is frequently the subject of highlight stories by television and radio stations and newspapers. The squad has been featured on the "CBS Evening News," Connie Chung's "Eye to Eye," and the "CBS Morning Show", in "Southern Living" and "Gentlemen's Quarterly," "ESPN the Magazine," and "Seventeen" magazines. The cheerleaders regularly attend University Athletics Association and Alumni Association functions. They represent the University at many charitable and public relations' events. The cheerleaders have performed at the half time of the Denver Nuggets (coached by UK graduate, Dan Issel) and the Miami Heat (formerly coached by UK graduate, Pat Riley) game and then appeared at the Denver UK Alumni Club function.
On the UK campus, UK cheerleaders are recognized as some of the finest athletes in the University's sports programs, as intelligent and outgoing students in the classroom, and as public relations ambassadors of the University of Kentucky and the entire Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Wow. I stand corrected!
My mom's a coach, so we've always followed the big championships (UCA HS & College championships). I wonder sometimes HOW they managed to win every year. When they finished 2nd behind UCF in I think 2003 my mom and I were stunned.

Frankly, I'm not sure how they have been able to win it so many years. But my guess is that having a strong commitment to the program by both the University Administration and the Athletic Department - and for over thirty years now - has helped.
So how was the program? WE Network isn't part of the local cable package so I wasn't able to catch it. Last I heard, some local UK Alumni were Tivo'ing it to show at one of our alumni functions later this year.

I'm pretty sure they go out and recruit just like the coaches do. Looking at their roster, they seem to attract students from all over the country. I've always heard Kentucky's Cheer Squads were the best.

I'm fairly certain they do. And this is what I mean by the commitment by the UK Administration and the UK Athletic Department. They put the resources (money and personal) into the Kentucky program that is needed to continue it to be one of the best in the nation.

I caught it. I thought it was ok, what I expected.
**Spoiler Alert**
It's short but if you dont want to know, skip my post. FYI, WE is running the episode over and over until the new episode so you still have a chance to catch it.

They showed the clinics for tryouts. There were more girls than guys (not surprising) and the coaches made cuts. A lot of HS seniors were there and one girl said if she didn’t make the squad (blue squad assume) she wasn't going to the school.
Every one had to try out including returning members. One girl from the white squad who was trying out for the blue squad, got dropped. Not a happy camper. I will say though, the coach handled it well. He pulled her aside and told her by herself. What the coaches did for every one was post the numbers of the kids who were cut. It gives them some anonymity. Still sucks though.

Yeah! I'm excited. I loved Cheerleader Nation
Another cheer show for me to watch. Now I just need to figure out 1) if I get WE with my digital cable and 2) if I do, what channel it is

WG All-Girls 3-Peat at UCA Championships
January 19, 2008 - The All-Girl squad continued their triumphant ways, as the ladies won their third straight UCA Championship Saturday afternoon at the Walt Disney Sports Complex in Orlando.
WG Coeds Win 7th Championship
January 19, 2008 - The dynasty continues, as the West Georgia Coed Cheerleaders took the stage Saturday, knowing that a bull’s eye was on their backs. The squad won, completing a weekend that saw both UWG teams bring home the hardware for the third straight year.
Since 2002, the UWG Coed cheerleaders have been the team to beat at the annual event, held at the Walt Disney World Sports Complex in Orlando, FL.
.....
The score would hold true, and the Coed squad would bring home a seventh consecutive UCA National Championship.
