i looked over the grades report . it seems most chapters are comparable in size. i mean, when one chapter is around 180 and another is at 150, will a pnm at a recruitment party really notice that one has 30 less members than the other?
i did only see one npc sorority that had low numbers-did i just miss seeing the other one? i believe that orangejuice mentioned 2.

If you look again it's rather clear. They're still a good size in my eyes, just not particularly for this campus.

The fact that there are 19 sororities on that campus boggles my mind! Coming from a campus where there are 5 chapters, with 40 members being total, and houses that never housed more than 11 members at a time... wow!
Sometimes I wish I'd gone to a bigger school... I stayed at the KKG house at Pitt earlier this semseter when my friend (the house director) had to go away for the weekend and I still couldn't believe that they had a live-in, non-member house director! Or that they required someone to be there in case of emergency! It definitely would have been nice to have when I was in undergrad.

Update!
Houses selected to give presentations were alpha xi delta, tri sigma and AST. They gave presentations last Thursday.

Yeah for us. Good luck to all three. But I'll be hoping AXiD gets it.

OJ, any idea why they would choose a chapter that has never been there over one that still owns a house?

Actually I think you're referring to what irishpipes said in another thread - that if they chose AST, they could have "bragging rights" as the only Panhellenic that has had all 26 sororities at some point in time.

I don't know that I would "brag" about having lost a bunch of chapters. I just think it is extreme stupidity that they would not invite the group that OWNS A HOUSE ON CAMPUS, unless there is some large, mitigating factor of which I am unaware.

Another thing to consider is the culture at U of I. Sophomores make up a lot of the pool of PNMs. Most chapters pledge a lot of sophomores, even the occasional junior. This can affect graduation/retention rates, and that is one reason why the perfectly acceptable chapter size is more of a range of maybe 150-180 rather than a more consistent number.

hope i did not offend anyone with my question. that was certainly not my intent!!
i thought that perhaps the op had mistakenly thought that one of the non-npc sororities was actually an npc sorority. i was looking for numbers below 50.
i really did not mean to hurt anyone's feelings.

No, I don't think anyone was offended, but the case at U of I is that you need to return in the fall with at least 80 actives to recruit well. Rush groups can have 65 girls each in the first round. PNM's will notice if they outnumber your actives. If you need to return in the fall with 80, then you need to have over 100 during the year.
