That statement bothers me, too, the way it was said. But after thinking about, the Urban Leagues does direct social service work and the NAACP is not structured to do so. It sounds as if Gordon would be a better fit with the UL.

For me the issue is the NAACP is not even doing much advocacy. It does need to refocus and become a stronger presence at the legislature on all levels.

He always seemed to me to be more of a UL or 100 Black Men fit, even. I'm not surprised that he did leave.

He was accountable to so many board member 64 and Chairmen Julian Bond and he could not have a meeting of the minds-so sad when the NAACP is much needed today! POLITICS!

The difficulty with many of these old organizations is that they still remain rooted in the beginnings of the Civil Rights Struggle, unable to admit that the struggle isn't over and unable to realize that the work that needs to be done now requires different tactics than it did in the early 1900s. That is one of the primary reasons that many of the organizations (greek organizations included) have been unable increase membership, develop strong relations with the general masses of African Americans in the United States, and be at the forefront of social and political change as they once were.
