I only use "bitch" to mean "female dog".

And if parents tell kids that this is what it means, kids will quickly figure out why it is being used as an insult anyway.

I love it that the shopkeeper is wanting to reclaim its original meaning: la female dog.

I think I saw some coverage of one of those prestigious dog shows on TV and whenever the commentator said "bitch", the 12 year old girl part of me was all, "tee hee".
