I dozed, read Wicked for a while, dozed again, read Wicked, went out and shovelled for 45 minutes or so. Came in for a break (cuz I'm not in good shape and over 40 and stuff and don't want a heart attack), read Wicked, dozed, shoveled for another 45 minutes. Took my daughter to her friend's house (because I had finally gotten the apron of the driveway clear from the huge pile the snow plow had dumped on it), shoveled some more, now I'm relaxing again. Not a bad snow day I guess, although I could do without the shovelling part! There was a drift behind my car that was up to my knees.

Ugh. What a mess. Snow, sleet, freezing rain, and ice in NYC. I'm surprised I didn't fall flat on my ass walking to my office.

It pretty much just snowed in Connecticut. We got less than an inch... but my town's snow removal plan consists of waiting for spring. My ten-minute drive home from the train station took half an hour, I skidded a few times, and my husband had to push my car in order for me to get it into the garage.

Blech.

My part of CT, we got all of it, the snow, sleet and freezing rain. The roads were like skating rinks, and they didn't do a whole lot about it. I tried shoveling my driveway, but the snow weighs a ton with all the ice. I have to invest in a snowblower.

wasnt it effing ridiculous in NYC today? it was barely a few inches, but everyone is all freaked out because the city wasnt prepared to shovel the streets and sidewalks (versus private companies which will pay super overtime to have their help staff do it round the clock). so everyone was all over the place. i stepped in puddles like you wouldnt believe and it sucked.

plus, this is the most snow we've had yet and its being called a nor'easter. WTF it wasnt that much!

you know, i think commuters have it just as bad when this happens. highway accidents, icy roads and traffic is just as bad as waiting in snow for a bus for all eternity, then having it pass you cause its packed. or being on a packed bus going 15 miles an hour. or having the subway be colder than it is outside and it being full of puddles from melted snow from above ground. or, having tracks being icy and frozen so parts or entire subway/train lines are shut down. or having to layer up like a motha because well its effing cold.

i dunno, you decide. who's got it worse? commuters or drivers?

I get to do both. Yay, me! I drive to the train station, then take Metro-North into the city. Metro-North isn't too bad, except when there aren't enough cars on the train and people have to stand.

I prefer commuting by train. You can get stuff done on the train. If you're driving, you have to concentrate on driving, but if you're just sitting on a train, you can read, sleep, listen to your iPod, knit, do needlepoint, do sudoku or crosswords, whatever. And if something goes wrong on the train, it's somebody else's problem - and you get more time to read, sleep, listen to your iPod, etc.

So after our foot of snow this week we're getting another 1-3 inches tonight. If only temperatures will stay in the positive we might get the ice off the roads.. some day.
