I saw a woman last Friday at the bodega wearing JUST her bathrobe and flip flops. No pants. And on the day of our first snow storm! Are you in such a rush to buy a coke & the newspaper that you don't get dressed??!?!?

DIsagree.

My family is Jamaican and you won't catch any of us ouside in winter with fewer than 2 layers on every part of us, lol. People I know from warm climes can barely make themselves go outside when it goes under 50 degres.

I agree with you, lovelyivy84. When I was in elementary and middle school, wearing shorts in the winter were out of the question, even if most everyone else wore them. I would beg my parents to let me wear shorts when it's 70 degrees outside in Feburary and even say everyone else is wearing them, but they wouldn't budge. When I was in the 6th grade, on a couple of days in February, I would be the only girl not to wear shorts.

Right now, they wouldn't let me leave the house if I plan to leave with flip flops on when it's cold outside. I can wear flip flops in the house every day, regardless of season. But when it comes to going outside, they would let me leave with them on only between April through late October.

If I can one day, I would put on my tennis shoes and when I get to school, I would change into my flip flops. When I go home, I would change back to my tennis shoes. I can be sneaky sometimes. I wish I would have thought of that back when I was in the 6th grade, but my parents would notice.

is it that serious to wear flip-flops everywhere? i think theyre kinda overrated. maybe i say this cause most of you are drivers and dont have to walk around in them EVERYWHERE. a day in flip-flops can mean sore dirty feet. and im not one to be all germ-conscious, but its a pain to have to scrub your feet every night after walking all day in them.

there's a time and place for flip-flops.

time: summer, for example, or running outside to grab the paper
place: by the pool, at the beach, in the public shower, while getting a pedicure

on another note:

Are you talking about white people? LOL.
wow, no kidding, thats the first thing i said before i opened the thread. but, i know lots of hispanic folks who would wear summer sandals and sundresses with a sweater and call it winter clothes. or slippers with socks. that does not cut it.

on the other hand it could be a class thing - i was always told that you can tell people with less money because they dont dress as appropriately to the climate simply cause they cant afford it yet. of course this bit me in the ass my senior year of college when my professor brought this up and i happened to have a single t-shirt on under my winter coat.

it was coincidence, really... i ran from the dorm to the library to class (only a couple blocks away) so it wasnt like i was out and about. geez.

Re: white people and shorts in the winter, no comment, lol.

I don't think it's always a class thing, I see this in almost every type of neighborhood.

I am almost always hot so, yes, I often wear t-shirts in the winter time. And, when I was in college, I used to wear sandals until it was too cold to do so. However, I have never worn shorts in the winter.
