Also, to the best of my knowledge we were never at IU South Bend - just the main IU.

I'll email you sometime this week as I think I have founding dates for most of these.

Oh and U of Southern Indiana & Southern Indiana U are the same thing, at least I thought they were...
Thank you! ASA is one of the NPCs that I have limited info for.

Hey irishpipes!

Great thread! However, one minor correction. My AGD chapter is actually the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu, HI. UH-Hilo is part of the UH system, but they're on a different island and (so far) have no Greek Life.

Fall recruitment is still TBD as we're still the only NPC presence on that campus.

Thanks again for that comprehensive list!

Just out of curiosity, why is it that practically none of the NPC orgs. care about establishing chapters in Hawaii?

I would wager the expense of travel has something to do with it. OTW can fill you in as to any other reasons, I'm sure.

33girl's right on the money.

Also being a commuter campus doesn't help at all. Greek life is very weak on campus...as far as sororities go, anyway. For some reason lots of guys want to go Greek (we have Kappa Sigma, TKE, and a local) but girls haven't been so enthusiastic. While the # of girls my chapter brings in each NM class remains steady, there simply isn't enough interest for an NPC to say "hey -- we want to invest $$$ and alumnae time so that we can colonize at UHM!"

The Hawaii Alumnae Chapter was established in 1936. AGD-Delta Sigma was finally established in 1992 (it's our 15th anniversary year!). Almost 60 years of hard work and persistence from the alums made my chapter a reality. Till 1992, there were only locals on campus. These locals remain dormant for the most part, and according to some of my friends in these orgs, only rush when they feel like it.

A few semesters ago a saw flyers for an NPC interest group around campus. I was curious why they chose XYZ because a) XYZ doesn't even have a Hawaii APH representative in Hawaii b) they're one of the newer NPCs not so much represented out West. Don't think it ever got off the ground because there hasn't been word about them ever since.

Don't get me wrong, it would be wonderful to have another NPC on campus to revive Greek Life...but unless there's a strong enough alumnae support...I just don't see it happening in the near future.

Holy cow that's impressive.

A few minor changes:

Monmouth College: Kappa Kappa Gamma 1870-? (I think it's 1878--same as Pi Phi, but would have to check my history book to be certain)/1934-

Iowa State: Zeta Tau Alpha 1926-1939/1970-1998; Alpha Phi 1977-1998; the ISU Greek website has Kappa Delta as being reestablished in 1905 and Pi Beta Phi as being reestablished in 1906. Also going by the timeline on that site, I'd guess Delta Delta Delta closed around 1894.

Simpson College: Kappa Kappa Gamma 1880-1890/1990-

This is an awesome list...

Thanks for your help! Just to clarify about KD at ISU - I don't have them chartered until 1908, do you think they were chartered before that and then recolonized in 1905? KD is another one that I have pretty sketchy info on, so if you can clarify, I would appreciate it!

I think you have the right information; I just checked the Iowa State KD chapter website and they state they were chartered in 1908. The Greek Affairs history page must be incorrect.

Just an FYI...There is no longer a Chi Omega chapter at UTEP...i believe it went dormant in the 80's....or early 90's.

FYI: the Tri-Delta chapter at Dickinson closed in during 2001-2002 school year I believe. That was the last year they participated in recruitment anyway. This is a neat list, there are some sororities that were listed for my school that I didn't even know we had!

Great job with this Irishpipes! One quick correction for you...

Delta Gamma at Washington University in St. Louis (MO) was definitely re-colonized in 1990, not 1993 as you have it.

Couple of notes on TAMU:

As I recall A Phi was chartered 1989 / 1990 (my junior year at A&M), but must have closed a few years after that. I do remember that they did not have a house on sorority row, they had a lodge.

There was one sorority at A&M right before 1975 and that was Phi Mu. They were not on campus for very long.

hmmm, my freshman year was 1990 and though I did not go through rush that year I knew several people that did-I don't remember Aphi just colonizing (I think my rush book said they colonized in 75 but I will have to dig it out or maybe some lovely APhi member can answer the question on when the chapter was colonized?). They had a house on Athens (I went to their house during rush for the first couple of days so I know it was there-it is now the pi kappa phi house). They tried to reorganize in 1995 or 96-they sold or leased their house to Pi Kappa Phi (I am not sure if they still own this house TechAphi was a member of this chapter-she may know). They had a lodge for a couple of years and then closed all together. I can't answer the Phi Mu question except that during pledgeship we had to know every sorority that was on campus and there was no mention of Phi Mu ever being there. I know my rush book says that Delta Zeta was the first sorority but I will dig out to double check.

edit to say: found rush book-DZ was the first sorority est at A&M. The book did not say when Aphi was established.

Either way, I don't think A Phi was there in '75. I think they were there closer to '89/'90/'91. I know they were there by '91 because they extended a bid to an African American woman that year and it caused a big ruckus on campus.

What I remeber about Phi Mu was that there was a 'greek' year book at A&M and they mentioned it in the year book. I came across the year book in the stacks next to the regular Aggieland yearbooks, and it did mention Phi Mu being there back in '75 or so. The only reason this tid-bit of information has stuck in my head was that someone wrote in the margin of the page 'Phi Mu - died at TAMU'. This person also wrote some very unsavory things about all the sororities, it was proabaly a guy......
