I agree that it may feel awkward to return to a sorority that had previously released you, but in larger rushes it's easy to 'slip through the cracks'. I know of several top quality girls who mismatched or were released, and actives are just as upset as the PNM's, I promise! Sometimes we don't really know who's coming or going, particularly early in rush when the cuts are biggest. It's hard not to take things personally, I know, but if you're set on going Greek COB is the way to go if you don't get a bid during formal rush!
