Very true. If you're at a shot and beer bar or a casual backyard BBQ, drink it out of the bottle. If you're at an upscale restaurant or martini bar or something, it would be classier to drink it out of a glass.
A lot of upscale restaurants don't even give you the option, they bring you the bottle & a glass when you order a beer.
