I wish they would show more good people. I get so annoyed watching people who are obviously putting on an act just to be on TV.

I love AI!! Couldn't wait till tonight, but I was a little disapointed at the turn out. Only 18 from MN went onto Hollywood?!

I used to love the auditions, now I think i'll wait until they get to Hollywood. The producers have gotten so caught up in showing these people who are ridiculous and who are totally faking it. It's not even funny anymore.

I agree. I mean, it got pretty pathetic to the point where it's not laughable anymore I was watching that red-haired guy singing and you can tell right away he's totally faking it just to be on TV. I could imagine yesterday he might be sitting at a bar with his buddies and laughing at himself!

Sure AI is just showing bad people, but did you catch that ONLY 8 out of what, 12k+ people made it through from Seattle? And only 17 from 17k from Minneapolis. So yeah, what else do they have to show?

They showed every single person that went through from Seattle. Is it their fault that better talent didn't come out? Be it for whatever reason.

But yes, I wish they didn't show the losers at all. I don't laugh anymore, I just fast foward my DVR and look for good ones.

No, they said 8 on the first day made it through. In total I think it was around 16 they said. But in past seasons, when 20-something people would get through from each city, we still only saw a tiny portion of them.

At this point, AI has gotten so popular that everyone and their mother is trying out, even though they know they can't sing. I think a lot of them do it just because they can. So, the numbers of auditioners grow, but you've got to be really good to make it onto that show.

I'm offended that they picked probably the biggest weirdos they could and made it look like my city is full of, as was said above, "mutants." They didn't show any of the normal people who went through, except for a few good ones. I thought the comments from Simon to the guy with the "eyes" were really cruel, and this year they seem to be encouraging them to keep singing so they can humiliate them as much as possible. It was obvious that some of those people on last night especially had some emotional problems, and instead of just letting them sing a few bars, they let them sing a whole song (or two, since the end of the show showed a number of them singing a Pussycat Dolls song that they did not audition with at first), then insulted them on top of it. When they do that to 16 year olds it bothers me even more.

I won't be watching any more of the audition shows, and just like in past seasons, I won't be watching much of AI either.

A girl in my sorority tried out a few years ago when AI came to Orlando. She had an amazing voice but she was cut during the second round (I think there's 3 rounds during the actual try-out stage...before Hollywood). From what I heard from her and have read on the AI message boards, the producers are looking for a particular type of person to put on the show. For instance, they love people who have unique background stories. They cut people with great voices if they don't fit what the producers are looking for. Although AI is a talent contest, it is also a television show. A normal, everyday person with a good voice doesn't create television ratings the way that a redneck girl with an ok voice and a locked-up daddy (a la Kelly Pickler) does.

I'm guessing this was the reason only a few people from each city have been making it through. I'm sure there were a lot of people in Seattle and Minneapolis who could sing but just didn't have what the producers were looking for.

Um blonde with the no bra... that was the first thing I noticed. Did you SEE how far those things hung down? What a freak show.

Did anyone notice the girl sitting at a desk or something wearing headphones in the audition room? I noticed her last night. What exactly does she do? I thought maybe she keeps track of the contestant names and numbers but wasn't sure.

Was it last season that by the time they did the Hollywood stuff, we didn't really know the finalists b/c they never gave them much air time during the auditions? It was a bunch of people that I never saw before with the exception of the poor singing cowboy... wonder what happened to him?

Last night was rotten - completely overdone in so many ways. I used to love the auditions (better than the rest of the show) but last night wasn't even funny. The only time I remember laughing out loud was once at the beginning when Simon told that girl "the good news is that singing is not for you - now you can move on to something else" and the other was when the big girl with the awful blonde hair & terrible eyeliner (was it Brenna?) came in - just the look on Simon's face when the door opened and she walked in... priceless.

Other than that, the funniest part of the show was watching the rejected candidates walk right into the locked door. You gotta figure they thought it was funny too, or they would have put a "Use other door" sign up after the first couple people did it.

"Hey Paula, when's the last time you made a record huh?" Classic. Personally I lost it when Randy went off on the vocal teacher and Simon sat there and anatagonized the poor guy for pure entertainment. Now that was hilarious.

For those of you who think MN was bad, Simon came out weeks ago saying that Seattle (which airs tonight!) was the worst city they've ever held auditions in!

I don't know what to think about that. Part of me is happy that the talented musicians in our area stayed away, and part of me is sad because I know there is so much musical talent in this city. What I do know is that I won't be watching AI this season (after tonight) because of the completely over-the-top insulting remarks about my city that FOX thinks is good PR for the show.

I have no doubt that the AI auditions bring all the freaks out of the woodwork, if only so they can get on TV. And from the previews I've seen, that will be the case on tonight's show.

Yep. They air mostly the bad auditions. They probably think that gets them more viewers. I enjoyed watching the bad auditions the first few seasons because they were real. But now there's a bunch of people who put on an act just to be on TV. I don't think anyone thought the juggler guy was for real. His "tears" were so fake. His mother was trying so hard to look sad but you could tell she was about to start cracking up. I grabbed a book after that audition and just read until I heard someone that sounded good.

The girl in the black outfit with the awful eyeliner made my cats run under the couch. No kidding. Don't these people have friends? I'd hobble my friends before I'd let them humiliate themselves on national TV.

The chick who did the Lion from the Wizard of Oz made my cat hiss at the TV. No joke. Mike & I couldn't stop laughing at the freak kid in the red shirt who was also juggling & dancing. His meltdown just had me holding my sides in laughter but I can't believe his mom is actually encouraging him to keep going b/c he's good & going to be famous one day. She's totally bullshitting her kid. He SUCKS!!!
