What are your thoughts about O opening a school in South Africa? Many feel that 'charity begins at home'; is that charity appreciated at home?

I'm glad to see that is doing what she can in Africa because quiet frankly, the "world" doesn't give two shakes about what happens there. They need a powerful (both publically and financially) voice to speak for them and to show the world that Africa is more than just an AIDS epdemic and starvation - it is filed with hope and people who looking forward to a bright future.
Honestly, Oprah does things here in the US. I don't think what she is doing in Africa is going to cause a disadvantage to anyone here at all.

As a public school teacher I appreciate the fact that she built a school for children who will come to school to learn. I feel like a work in a detention center, daycare, or babysitter. Besides its her money.

Ok, like who are you? You have 9 posts and have YET to introduce yourself in the proper thread. Please grace us with your info.
Anyway, Oprah is truly a spectacular person and I wish that I may one day make a fraction of the contributions that she makes. I watch her special "Oprah in South Africa" everytime that it comes on and it continues to have a profound effect on me.

I think the what she and others are doing in Africa is great, phenomenal, sorely needed! However, it seems like MOST of what we hear about is in the country of SOUTH Africa. What about the other parts of the beleaguered continent?
