What GLO is the most known?

Which Org do you guys think is the most known across the United States or even the world? My vote would have to go to the BGLO Omega Psi Phi, almost everyone has heard of Que-dogs before. What about everybody else?

Hands down, the most known GLO (note it makes no distinction as to specific type) is Phi Beta Kappa.

I would agree. It was also the first Greek Letter Organization in the U.S. (founded in 1776 at The College of William and Mary) and is so prestigious as an academic honorary that many people who have never been part of the Greek System -- or even gone to college recognize its name.

In terms of social fraternities, I would agree with Sigma Chi because of the song.

This is yet another situation where what campus and/or area you are from will form your opinion since not all campuses have the same organizations.

My vote would go to Sigma Chi, due to the "Sweetheart of Sigma Chi" catchphrase. Other orgs might be the fictitious Tri-Lambdas from the "Revenge of the Nerds" movies or of course the "Delta House" from the movie Animal House (I don't think the average person would remember their full name of Delta Tau Chi, though).

Delta Delta Delta is probably pretty well known also, if only for that unfortunate SNL skit.
In short, if a GLO made it onto TV, people will have heard of it.

eta: Rain Man, good call with the Phi Beta Kappa too. I didn't think of that!!

Definitely Phi Beta Kappa!

In literature, "Kappa" is so often used, but not always for KKG, so it's a close second, IMHO.

I agree. I knew about Sigma Chi long before I knew about GLOs. I think my first encounter with Sigma Chi must have been when I was 11 years old and reading Lou Kassim's Middle School Blues. The main character's older sister was a Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.

I'll go with the Q-Dogs, because so many professional athletes have the brand on their upper arms. People see it every Saturday, Sunday.

I remember the "Sweetheart of Sigma Chi" on Who's The Boss!

I think a lot of times people come across them, but have no idea what the letters or symbols mean.

I think this is a question that can not be answered. Of course I am going to say Beta Theta Pi because we are one of the largest fraternities nationally and world wide. Then I would also say Sigma Chi because they are huge nationally and almost all of their chapters are composed of gentlemen and good people who are respected by their peers at their respected campuses. I would then say any of the next largest chapters nationally are the most recognized. Beta Theta Pi has the most fortune 500 CEO's. TKE has the most members. The above fraternities you have mentioned are unheard of to me which means almost the same to the rest of the Greek community at the University of Texas.

All opinions here are biased to geographical location.

I'm going to go with Sigma Chi or Phi Beta Kappa ..."__________ graduated Phi Beta Kappa." I'd bet a lot of non-Greeks, and especially those who did not attend college, don't know what Phi Beta Kappa is.

Most people probably don't realize what they're seeing...

Too bad Gerald Ford passed away. I wonder if DKE's going to do something to memorialize him?

IFC Fraternity- I want to nominate SigEp. Most people don't even name all 3 letters, because it seems that everyone knows what it is.

NPC Sorority- I think Tri-Delta due to the Saturday Night Live skit. The 3 same letters in a row make it easy to remember- while at the same time it has more chapters than the other 3 identical letter one.

Divine Nine Organization- Either AKA or Delta Sigma Theta.

True, but there will be people who have never heard of Greeks of any sort. I would say Phi Beta Kappa is the most well known because it is known among social Greeks AND the academic community. Are there people who don't know what Phi Beta Kappa is? Of course. There is no GLO that EVERYONE knows about.

I would beg to differ. Anybody who knows anyone who went to a school with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter knows about it. My Sabbath School teacher couldn't form a sentence without saying, "my son, the Phi Beta Kappa...."!

JessSigKap is right - there is no one GLO that everyone's going to know! I've taken abuse for not knowing about KD before college ("What, you know the other Farmville Four but not KD? What's the matter with you?" Hello, I was 15 at the time!); I'm sure others had the same experience. Just as I had heard of Pi Beta Phi, DG & ZTA, but there were none on my street.

Most known??

To my understanding, Phi Beta Kappa is the most known. But to my own belief, ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY INCORPORATED, is the most celebrated, though I have friends who are TKEs, SAEs, and Sig Chi's. Either way, its all good in the fraternalhood.

Never heard of Omega Psi Phi before Greekchat. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I think APHIA is the most well known of the male BGLOs.
