I was reading some of the other recruitment threads and they were talking about recs (which I think means recommendations?) and I'm a little bit confused, because I havent really heard anything about them at my school. Who needs them? What are they for? What do they do?

Lots of threads on recs

I'm betting that you won't need them at your school but if you have any questions, your Greek advisor is the best place to start.

I wrote an email to my schools greek advisor, and the message got returned saying that the email adress not longer was valid. So I'll have to wait untill later to call OSIL and figure out who the Greek advisor is now. The Greek Life website might not have been updated this year. Anyways, what does SEC mean? What is an SEC school? I will look around Greek chat and see if I can find out the answer myself. Also, I just wanted to thank everyone who has helped me and answered my questions. I really appreciate it. I cant wait untill after Christmas break.

SEC refers to the schools that are in the Southeastern Confence ... these include Kentucky, Florida, Vandy, Georgia, and Auburn ... for example.

Meet the other two (you will during formal rush) but I'm glad you had a good time.

Don't worry about recs, from everything you said I doubt they are needed.

Pizza Party

I woke up this morning after yet another night of studying for finals and on my way back from the shower I noticed something taped to our doorhandle. Tonight the sisters of the three sororities here are throwing a pizza party for all freshman women interested in sorority life. Its tonight in the table lounge at seven. I'm excited. Wish me luck.

What a nice way to "enjoy" finals week. Have a great time.

Best of wishes on your finals.

Enjoy! This is very informal but you should put your best foot forward (and not look like it is finals week in ponytail, glasses, no makeup etc) since the sisters may be judging you more than you are judging them. Oh, and keep an open mind since you never know who you will click with!

At my alma mater, every chapter did informal recruitment in the fall and formal recruitment was also deferred. It wasnt uncommon at all for freshmen to come down to check out greek life and it wasnt at all disallowed or frowned upon.
