Was it me, or when they showed the Chos and the BQs, did you keep thinking "ya'll should have been in the finals"?
|
Earlier in the season I would have agreed, but they turned out to be such disappointing racers.

Yes, it is an international airport -- Bama flew into Orly from Spain. Orly has flights to and from Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean. No flights to or from North America, though, so flights to Newark were not an option. The best they could have gotten at Orly was a flight to another city (say London) where they could have connected to a flight to NYC.
What I didn't understand is why no teams went to a travel agent. Might have secured a seat on the earlier flight, and Bama might have avoided the trip to Orly.

But who's excited for All-Stars??? I've heard about people who won't be on All-Stars and some who will be (from seeing other message boards) but I don't want to spoil that for people.
|
I've seen some of the rumors and the confirmations, and I'll admit I played the very short preview last night in slow motion to see which teams were shown in the "stars." Some I was very glad to see, while others produced a groan. Of course, no way of knowing whether all the teams pictured -- there were a lot -- will be in the race.

That's probably why the clue said "convince a New York cabbie to take you to Garrison." And yes, cameras probably do help.
As for money, they've been given varying amounts at the beginning of each leg of the race.

and from a TV/ratings perspective, Bama winning wouldve made better TV. they had the most on the line for their families. they seemed to be struggling a lot in the race (i started watching mid season) and to make it in the top 3 as the first female team - amazing. their day-after interviews wouldve been more interesting than the models and overall wouldve made for a better finale.
|
Are you suggesting that the producers should fix the race based on who would make "better TV."
In any event, I disagree. I saw Tyler and James on The Morning Show this morning, and they were quite interesting enough. (Had to tape the later interview when they got the check and when usually other teams are there.) I wouldn't have cared at all to see Karlyn and Lynn, since I've wanted them off of my television screen for weeks now. Sorry -- Lynn has come across as a little more likeable the last week or two, and their racing definitely improved -- but I was way beyond tired of their hypocrisy and sour attitude. I didn't mind at all that they got left in Paris and we didn't have to watch them anymore until the finish line.

Huh, that's weird. I flew in and out of Orly from the U.S., but that was several years ago.
Did anybody find it odd that in Paris, every team chose fashion instead of art? I always figure out which one I'd pick and art seemed like a better choice -- but then I know we don't get all the details. It seemed odd that the boyz finished their jacket thing faster than the other teams -- sure they're models and have been fitted, but there's a difference between being fitted and doing the fitting, I'd think. Did the woman giving out the clues give them a break?
I hate "All Star" crap and am disappointed that TAR is doing this.

I figured it was a matter of fashion was closer and didn't require going through the streets and finding a random artist.

You are correct...I misspoke...I meant to say that you can't fly out of Orly into the US (should've said bi-continental maybe instead of international; but I think you can fly to Africa from Orly). Sometimes you can do the opposite (as I've known people to fly into Orly before from the US--but AGES ago and only from NYC), but planes from Orly haven't flown into the US for quite a long time. Since 9/11 at least if not earlier.

it happens ALL THE TIME on TV, especially reality TV. im thinking had the finale aired in November, the outcome wouldve been different. i understand that many of you were sick of Bama, but i think of the three, the ending wouldve been more exciting simply because no one wouldve expected it. had the BQs won, i wouldve been just as bored because they were strong for a good portion of the show and wouldve been expected.
i dont know, i just wasnt checking for the models to win. even if rob and kim had won (which i wouldnt have wanted) i wouldve been OK cause there was story behind it. (if there was some "story" behind the models being on teh show, let me know)
now im not condoning that reality TV be fixed, but one way or another it happens. and considering that TAR is rolling out an "all-stars" series, i think maybe they need more ratings? Sure, sex sells, but doesnt a feel-good story sell too?
(and please some poor soul don't turn this into a race argument - had Bama been [insert any other race] given their situation, i wouldve felt the same way)

MMMkay. Don't suppose you have any proof that the producers actually fix the outcome, other than citations to conspiracy theories, but okay, whatever.
Look, I'm not suggesting that the producers of Flava of Love might not manipulate things a bit, but people like Jerry Bruckheimer and shows like The Amazing Race have way too much riding on these shows to pull a "Twenty One" and risk fixing the outcome -- especially in these internet-intensive days when it would be impossible to keep it a secret. Talk about a way to immediately get your show cancelled, among other things. (Fraud, anyone?)

2. rob/kim & the models grabbing a cab downtown to the CUBE vs. walking (really, from where they were at the news building to the cube was a direct path straight down one avenue.

Didn't the clue say on foot ? Or was that for another leg of the journey ?

Yes. The clue said they had to go on foot. Tyler and James said on The Early Show yesterday that Rob & Kimberly were about 10-15 minutes behind them at the finish line, so had James and Tyler taken a cab, the 30 minute penalty would have lost them the race.

What would've made the BIGGEST difference IMO is if the models hadn't been able to get on the 8:25 flight at the last minute. That would've gotten Rob and Kim the win for sure.

I agree, although I wonder how much time was saved by the models because their cab driver had the Easy Pass.

Regarding "fixing the race".....
I don't think CBS would take the chance. Athough Amazing Race is a "reality show"-- it is also a "game show" with a million dollars at stake.
Do you remember the 1994 movie "Quiz Show?" It was based on the real life scandal. It was based on the what happened in the 1950's on a show called, "Twenty One."
Some former contestants came forward and disclosed that the show was rigged. The winners were coached and the entire show was rigged. The network was taken to court.
As a result of this scandal, Congress made rigging a game show a federal crime.
