I saw it when it first came out, and I loved it...

I think the Deja Vu angle comes from feeling of being watched...remember how Denzel was able to show that Paula Patton knew someone was there, when they were watching the events from 3 days before? So I think they weren't necessarily going for the "you've been before" angle, instead they went for the "someone's watching and know's what's going to happen" angle.

But its just a guess *shrug*

Ok, I didn't consider these particular facts but I along with my mother did consider the "what if they're really talking about being psychic (such as knowing what's going to happen in the future)" instead of having true deja vu.
Is the case when "someone's watching and know's what's going to happen" a type of deja vu?

Ok, here goes what we came up with after an hour. lol.

Ok, we figured that you have to start with OUR (lol) meaning of deja vu:
1. you feel like you've been here before or know what's going to happen at that moment b/c you feel like you've done it before and
2. (this is totally made up) you can have deja vu b/c your mind is already operating in another time that your physical body hasn't caught up to yet.

if these are the case, we thought that the whole movie from the beginning until he went back in time, including when he saw her after she was killed, when he went to her house and saw the words on the fridge, when he was watching her through the back-in-time machine was all *actually in his mind and did not happen*. Kind of like when you have deja vu, maybe it's like your *mind* has already been there but your physical body has not - until later.

So then what was the purpose of the time machine. We figured that it was to support him being able to *know* all that stuff in detail b/c it seems like when I have deja vu, it is only a glimpse of something familiar and I would be skeptical of someone having all this detail.

Then, when he went into the time machine, this was the start of him being "physically there" like when you walk into a room (physically) and have deja vu about having already walked into that room before. Well, we thought that he (once he went into the machine, stole the ambulance, etc.) knew all about what was going to happen b/c he was kind of having an extended deja vu b/c his mind had already played everything that was going to happen from the time that the movie started up until the time that he got into the machine.

The only thing that doesn't make sense is how come he was able to walk up to her at the end --- given that he died in the water.

Well, my mother says that when he walked up to her at the end, that was *her* deja vu b/c at the beginning of the movie they told Denzel that there was a survivor that he should speak to - and it was her. So she had seen him before.

Doesn't really make sense if you assuem that the beginning was only in his mind (my first assumption).

Ok, I'm done - Calgon take me away.

This is ridiculous!! LOL.
