I didn't join to dance, but some people join fraternities to binge drink and get drunk. That's what THEY do. Really. It would be one hell of a movie too. LOL

I must say "Animal House" was great.......Belushi was a riot, God rest his soul. I really havent seen any other very good fraternity movies though. 'Going Greek' was ok and 'The Skulls" was pretty much a joke as far as movies go. I dont know......just my 2 cents.

Read my post about Saddam and that will answer that question . Seriously, I know we can't judge books by the cover, but when I saw the cover, it looked dumb to me. I liked the Skulls, that was good. I guess I don't really like commedies that much, plus I don't drink (never have except when I was pledging) so I don't see what's so fun about getting drunk.

You don't drink? What kind of a fraternity are you a member of?

No, I don't drink.
You want to see how good black men are in bed? What kind of sorority are you a member of?

Hummmm-You believe that all members of fraternities drink? All GLO's drink?
While I was active, we had at least two Brothers in the house that did not drink at all.
And I no longer do by choice.

Animal House is supposedly a comedic classic and has a cultish following. Not a particularly good movie but it embodies all the partying and stereotypical ways of college fraternities (binge drinking, toga parties--ya know, the stuff that ALL fraternities and fraternity men HAVE TO be about).
Not to be confused with a movie like The Skulls that isn't about partying and has a much more settled and meaningful plot.

Animal House is amazing and you're unamerican if you haven't seen it and you're greek. Plus it's based on my school!

A symbol without substance
I think that when people don't pledge/or are taken through the "intake" process, they miss the true power of what it means to step. To truly appreciate the power of that action, one must understand the power of the emotion that is supposed to be associated with it. I think too, to have made a movie about it is irresponsible and potentially harmful if the producer doesn't highlight some of the work associated with what it means to be a Bruh or a Soror, and, I think that it would be smart if the film showcases the tribal history associated with stepping and what tribal dance, a centuries old form of communication and precursor to stepping is really all about. Do I think its cool to produce a movie about it? Hell naw. I think that the de-mystification of the pledging process has only succeeded to disempower the spirit of the journey and it has taken with it, the distinct art of what it means to step. Hollywood doesn't need to make a movie about everything and I'm embarrassed that a member of Alpha Phi Alpha has anything to do with it, though, I understand his right to project his opinion and thought in any form he chooses, I just hope that stepping doesn't become a symbol without substance.
