Fake navigation bars...FYI

Hey guys, my profile was just fine last night...and then this morning I noticed my navigation bar in my profile was a weird shade of blue. I clicked on 'HOME' and it took me to an error page, but it looks like it would have taken me to a fake login page had it worked (it was a script of some sort). Sure enough, I saw a bulletin about this, and when I went into my profile...the nasty crap was in there.

There is a nasty virus going around at the moment and if on your page its coming up with that active x box and/or your tool bar is highlighted, you've got it.

This is how you get rid of it. Please pass this on to your friends that have it and when you go to their page dont click okay on that box. You'll get it again. Keep checking your profile from time to time to see if it comes back, thats what I've been doing. Its such a pain in the butt.

There is now another myspace virus up on myspace again, it creates a fake nav bar that redirects you to an off site to steal your password.

First, when it asks you to login, make sure at the top in the address bar it says .. before you even type anything in. To remove the virus, first go to the bottom of your About Me section, and remove the part that is red.

It goes down more, it should be from that point all the way down remove it.<br><br>Also in your movies section remove...

Save your profile and try to stay off others until the virus has been removed.

............and if you see posts that you have not posted CHANGE PASSWORD ASAP!!!! (you should do this often just in case)

Wow, thanks a lot. I'm totally new to myspace (facebook, xanga user ) but I don't quite get it how you can get virus from it. Is there like a loophole somewhere? Or does it automatically somehow infects your profile?

When people customize their MySpace pages, they often use codes they get from sites that can't be trusted. Oftentimes they put these codes in without even knowing it because most people aren't familiar with .css codes (Cascading Style Sheets) anyway. Most of these codes are Flash files that infect your page when you visit those infected pages.

You visit the infected page, then the virus finds its way to your profile, and the cycle is repeated the next time someone visits your page.

ETA: Here's an article about the worm.

Thanks for telling us about this virus! I checked my profile, and saw that I had the weird toolbar, so I was able to remove it. Thanks again

When I log in, there's a Google toolbar. Is that a virus or is it safe?

Google's on every page now, I think. They're probably major MySpace sponsors now.

Just pay attention to the URL each time you login and make sure that it's a real MySpace login page. If you're unsure, just type in www.myspace.com and log in again from there.

Ok thanks. I just checked my about me section and it doesn't have that code there. Thanks for the heads up.
