Didn't the last seasons final episode show some sort of ancient ruins, a giant stone foot? Could this partial foot be all that's left of a giant statute. Who created this statute? Are the others somehow involved with the people who build this statue or inhabited the island at some point? An ancient and mysterious civilization story arch could help answer many questions.

Agreed. While a story line incorporating a mysterious cililization could answer some questions, it's just to hackney and cliche'.
