If we're talking numbers, yeah, there's probably no question...but you're right, I can't believe she actually said that.

What cannot anyone beleive? She is proud of Her Organization and lets it be known. If it is a lie, then do not wory about it.
But congratulations on the three Sororitys in being chosen to present.
It is a shame to hear about ADPi having been closed.

Because it's not very panhellenic.

Earp doesn't know the meaning of panhellenic, thus revealing the problem.
And it isn't very panhellenic, regardless of truth.

I disagree. He unites GC sorority women through his presentation of the issues he considers important.
And yes, ZTA has larger stage presence from a numbers POV, but I can see where the quote could be taken out of context or taken the wrong way.
As for an ADPi chapter closing, I will say honestly I know nothing of the circumstances behind its closing but I will say from experience that our IO team and volunteers make extensive efforts to preserve a chapter and give collegiate members the tools they need to be successful. It could be the university was ready for expansion, but the closed chapter could not stay competitive with the other existing chapters. At some point a dying chapter has reached a point of no return and all the PNMs in the world are not going to fill its halls. And I'd rather see a chapter close than see collegiate members struggle on a daily basis for years. The collegians gain nothing but frustration when there is a losing battle before them. When no amount of help or aid can repair a chapter, it's time to close the doors and let it go so the current collegians can have some chance at a reasonably normal college experience without the stress and obligations of a dying chapter consuming their every thought and movement.

Thank you both for your insightful posts!
So, it is not Pan Hell.
But I wonder how many on site are that so kind to others?
God a mental pea could read posts and figure it out.
Read some of your own comments!

I wish nothing but the best for any GLO on any campus. Is that plain enough?
Granted, not all chapters are the same in grade as others, are they even the less?
If you are not proud enough to say posotive things about your GLO, then who would think of you being so kind to others?

Tom you don't have a campus. You have an almer mater. Are you still concerned with the tiers and ranking of greek life?

I agree.
She should have said something like "We are the LARGEST sorority", not we are the "STRONGEST". Strongest implies to me, a not very favorable commentary on the members of the other 2 NPC sororities.

Wow...very bold statement.
Anyone else think it might be a little early to expand since ADPi just closed last year due to low numbers? Maybe I am missing something.....

Why would it be so bizarre? UCF is not a microcosm of Greek Life across the country and in Canada.

I think what JessXica is saying is that you start to think of the sororities on your campus as the representation of the sorority. It's easy, especially for a new member, to get used to seeing XYZ as the small house and QRS as the strongest. Not bizarre like they can't possibly be different, but bizarre like this is all I've ever known. I agree with this although years on GC and being an alum has made a difference.

Keep in mind that Northwestern is in Illinois, not the South. Many of the strong "southern" sororities don't have the same foothold up North. That isn't to say they don't have any successful northern chapters, but they don't enjoy the same identity/advantage that they tend to have in the South. I have a lot of respect for ZTA, but they only have 1 open chapter in Illinois, and 5 closed ones - same as Alpha Xi Delta. SDT has 3 open versus 2 closed. I'm not saying that to be disrespectful or to lobby for one over another, just pointing out that the playing field is probably more even than the ZTA president's comments would lead one to believe. For all 3 groups this would be a recolonization.
ETA: For those who aren't familiar with NU, EVERY NPC on campus is a single-letter designation chapter (i.e. OLD) except for one (Delta Zeta.) It can be difficult for any sorority to compete with that kind of history. ADII originally came on campus in 1945 - that is 64 years after Alpha Phi opened the campus in 1881. NU had 8 sororities before 1900. That can be daunting.

Wow that is very interesting! Thank you for sharing that info. I wonder if there were other schools that had this much representation by 1900?
