That was so bizarre...it's as though The OTHERS have created "Pleasantville" on the island.

Speaking of the Hanso Foundation... I was driving home the other day, and there were a bunch of campaign signs. I literally gasped because one said

HANSO

... okay well it turned out that the "N" in Hanson was blocked by another sign, but still

Ahem, welcome to "OTHERVILLE"....lol.

Mmkay, a few things...

The opener for this episode answers a few things from the last two years.
  1. The Others were just as surprised of seeing Oceanic 815 breaking up over them, so while they managed to place their people with the crash survivors they did not cause the crash.
  2. Seems that the polar bears belong to the Others. (It only took the bears 2 hours to get the fish biscuit)
Of course this episode does raises the following questions:
  1. Who or what are the Others hiding from?
  2. Why do the Others want to cause harm to the Oceanic 815 people?
  3. How do they get resupplied in Otherville? Fenry/Ben had a lavish breakfast for he and Kate!
  4. What kind of link do they have with the outside world? They were able to get Jack's life story likethat. I'm getting flashbacks to the Russian scientists again.
The location of Otherville is actually Camp Erdman, where my chapter used to hold our sisterhood retreats on the North Shore. I don't recall the cabins looking that nice, though! The set they used for the water scene near the end was the old Baywatch Hawaii set (when they used to film underwater scenes).

I was wondering why Juliet looked so familiar and then I remembered she was Dr. Legaspi on ER. You know, Dr. Weaver's lesbian loverrrrrr. I guess she plays the therapist role real well.

I still don't get who the kid was in the cage across Sawyer. Did he try to leave the Others before and that's why he's being punished? Hmm...

As for Fenry/Ben, well he still creeps me out.

Can't wait till next week. Five episodes left until yet another 3 month hiatus! Those bastards!

Do you think so? I mean, I don't think they caused it, but they didn't seem super shocked, IMO, and Ben made a pretty quick decision for Ethan to infiltrate the group.

Anyway.. I'm not entirely convinced that the Others will turn out to all be "bad guys". The Lost Experience kind of led us to believe that the DHARMA Initiative/Hanso Foundation were bad... and since the facilities on the island are in such disrepair, it seems like they haven't been there for awhile. Maybe the Others are leftover "experiments" from the DHARMA Initiative?

I DON'T KNOW! THIS IS ALL SO CONFUSING!

Whatever let's just stare at Josh Holloway's sexiness. Why do they always have to beat up Sawyer?

PS: I totally named my dog Sawyer.

The Other's didn't cause the crash, but there was a sense that maybe this event has happened before - looking at Henry/Ben's action as he came out of his house and immediately looked to the sky. And if as we have seen previously, Oceanic has some connection to Darhma then it may have been somewhat expected.

I too would like to know about the information - and now my question is, is Jack's father REALLY dead? I don't recall seeing anyone 'strange' in the flashbacks that would immediately link to the island, but it was only the first episode. And what failed w/Ethan? Did he fall in love w/Claire?

First 4 minutes made the rest of the episode totally worth it. Juliet annoys me for some reason. I wonder what kind of experiments they are planning on doing b/c Fenry/Ben did tell Kate that the next two weeks were going to be unpleasant. And yes, I do also agree that they live in "Otherville"
Just freaky.

ETA: Sawyer can be a real sweetheart like when he gave his fish biscuit to Kate. Does anyone else think that a fish biscuit sounds really disgusting?

The whole episode was great, but the opening was absolutely fantastic. My brother, husband and I all just looked at each and said OMG!

Both my brother and I thought the girl at the beginning was Pen... but I'm sure we will see her again later in the season.

OTW thanks for reminding us about the polar bears - I had completely forgotten about that. Time to go back and re-watch season 1. I do recall thinking at the time WTF is a polar bear doing on a tropical island.

Lost is seriously like a drug. I want more now, and I can't wait!

I didn't catch the very beginning (stupid DVR) but what I did see with the book club was cool as hell. Overall, I was bored with the episode, though. I get it -- they're captive! They're being held by the others! The others know stuff! They're mean and up to something! Did you know they're being held by the others? Jack and Kate are boring! But they're being held! By the others!

I thought it was established that Desmond caused the crash when he didn't enter the numbers on time and the magnet got all crazy for a minute.

Remember the Air Ballon or was it Heliocopter that drops food?

Air Balloon. They would have "heard" a helicopter. An Air Balloon is virtually silent.

Your sorority is in cahoots with THE OTHERS!!!

A few more observations..
The kid who escaped from the cage was "Carl". Has that name come up before? And what about Jack's Dad going into that hotel room, where the sign on the door said "Friends of Bill W." (I think that's what it said...I rewound and paused the tape a few times...LOL). Is that similar to an AA meeting?

And Ben/fake Henry being "out of the bookclub" in the beginning?? There must be some kind of semi-bad blood between Ben and Juliette, because she chose a Stephen King book that the nerd guy in the book club was saying that Ben wouldn't approve of, and that Ben wasn't present that day, and then later on, when the plane was crashing, Ben saw the book in her arms and said, "So I guess I'm out of the book club". Hmmmmm....

Hee

food for thought

so my friends and i re-watched it tonight and found out these things:

* the book club is reading stephen king's carrie (we re-played and paused it about 15 times, when juliet was saying how this is her favorite book, she kinda flails the book around)

* at the very end, ben (aka henry gale) says "juliet" not julia or julie... it's just that the music kinda drones out the 'et' part - if you turn it up really loud, you'll hear it.

* also, at the end... when juliet is answering jack's questions, she mentions, "THEY called it the hydra." and then says, "that was a long time ago... doesn't matter who WE were... it matters who WE are now."
~so my friends and i are under the assumption that the others were somehow part of this hanso/dharma thing - whether they were "experiments" or not, we're not sure...

I think Carl was a plant to mess with Sawyer's head.

I think that The Others may have found Jack's dad and done their own autopsy.

Why was Sarah so secretive about her boyfriend??? It doesn't seem normal to me.
