Oh, Florida!
Seriously, this is sick...and gross. The IM conversations, however, are priceless. Good thing the kid kept them.

I think Florida just needs to abdicate all political rights in this Union. They can't vote, can't pick Reps, can't pick Governors...

ABC ONLINE GLITCH LEADS TO IDENTITY OF FOLEY ACCUSER
FEATURED IM EXCHANGE WAS WITH 18 YEAR OLD
Wed Oct 04 2006 20:32:06 ET
A posting on ABCNEWS.COM of an unredacted instant message sessions between Rep. Mark Foley and a former congressional page has exposed the identity of the now 21 year-old accuser.
The website PASSIONATE AMERICA detailed the startling exposure late Wednesday.
ABCNEWS said in a statement: "We go to great lengths to prevent the names of alleged sex crime victims from being revealed. On Friday there was a very brief technical glitch on our site which was overridden immediately. It is possible that during that very brief interval a screen name could have been captured. Reviews of the site since then show no unredacted screen names."
SEX CHAT WAS WITH 18 YEAR OLD
On Tuesday ABC news released a high-impact instant message exchange between Foley and, as ABC explained, a young man "under the age of 18."
ABC headlined the story: "New Foley Instant Messages; Had Internet Sex While Awaiting House Vote"
But upon reviewing the records, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned, the young man was in fact over the age of 18 at the time of the exchange.
A network source explains, messages with the young man and disgraced former Congressman Foley took place before and after the 18th birthday.

Nothing about being 21 at the time e-mails took place. Is page is NOW 21.
The questions seem to be if under 18 at the time.
And IMHO, even if between 16 and 18, there still are major problems.
And on ABC's site, I found this link, nothing about age.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/...t_message.html
We all can, and do, miss read numbers. Not a problem.

age really isn't a factor in this, at least not to me, its just that....that is like if your boss asks you out, I mean that is going to get icky, but I don't know what the age of consent is in DC i think its 16 in Del and 18 in VA & MD but right now its 20 to 12 and I gotta be up for work, so......
peace

Pages are hs juniors. They are required to be at least 16 years of age.
Interns are college students. There is no minimum age requirement but presumably 17+ even if they are rising college freshmen.
-----
It is much too easy to identify the victim when it is said which Congressman was the sponsor of a specific Page. The Representatives never sponsor more than 1 per session. If the name of the specific sponsoring Congressman had been kept under wraps, there would be speculation as to what Page was contacted by Foley, not such certainty.
"Congressman X is my Representative. Wait a minute, didn't that guy in my algebra class go to DC for some government thing in hs a couple of years ago? Must be him. I wonder if he swings that way...."

Of course ABC isn't gonna mention that they screwed up, or that the kid may have been of legal age. Drudge shows it, because Drudge doesn't care whether the Democrats win back congress or not...ABC on the other hand...
Not to say getting to the bottom of this isn't important, I just think its telling how ABC and CNN will paste "HASTERT KNEW!!! HE SHOULD RESIGN" when the facts aren't out. I haven't heard anyone from CNN or ABC mention that the emails and such reported to Hastert were only the katrina and picture ones. I mean, if Hastert did know and took no/poor action, then sure, but at least tell both sides, gee. I don't really like Hastert as speaker, but its just annoying to flip on CNN and hear a "journalist" talk about how the GOP should lose the house because of their inaction on the Foley thing.
