I don't know where I heard this, but freshman admission to UF is up this year. I don't think that was the reason for lower membership. The weather was pretty awful... it rained EVERY DAY!! It was hot and because of the rain (and the fact that we live in a swamp) we were eaten alive by mosquitos. Just a yucky rush in general.

hmm....i seriously remember the weather being nice the whole week but then again, it was rush week and it was all pretty much a blur of names and faces.

i'm almost positive that freshman numbers were down this year. i'm looking for verification in the alligator.

lol the alligator.
I'm a junior. The sophomore class behind me was GIGANTIC. The new freshman class is bigger than my class for sure, but I don't know if it's as huge as the sophomore class. UF keeps giving away less and less acceptance letters, but a higher percentage of the acceptance letters are enrolling. Basically UF needs to start keeping it's enrollment under control.
I don't know anything about fraternity rush, but we sit outside in tents ALL DAY LONG. I got the feeling that most fraternity events were in the houses and at night.
Weren't several fraternities coming back onto campus this year as well? My bf is rushing to help recolonize FIJI and I think Sigma Nu and KA are back as well. Maybe that's why the new member classes were smaller.

UF Panhellenic quota has never been in the 70s, nor has it been below 50 in the 21 years that I've been involved.

The highest quota was maybe in the low to mid 60s, but never more than that.

I believe from what I've read on here and online, UCF had a higher quota than UF. Though because we had such a high quota and a lot of girls were dropped, there is talk about bringing another sorority on campus. I know whoever they bring in will be awesome because all the NPC's are great!!

For many years, UCF has had higher quotas than UF and FSU. I believe that has to do with keeping the houses at total.

But this is a thread about UF. Please start another thread if you want to discuss UCF.

I wasn't trying to turn this thread into a UCF thread, I was just stating facts. I didn't know that UCF has had higher quotas in the past.
I was actually in Gainesville for the last part of rush and although I don't remember what the weather was, its Florida and usually rains in the afternoon.

i guess my question then is it normal for people to complain about smaller classes and less selection each year? it just seemed to me as far as the pc side of things go that they complained after each round that the girls just werent the same as they usually are and I've never heard that before.

Update....Delta Tau Delta has 18 here. Another smaller class. Usually though with the recolonization, Chi Phi recolonized last fall and that didnt effect numbers as did Sigma Nu.

Sure.

Ever hear any of your friends say, "I went by our old high school last week. Man, that school has gone down ever since we graduated/we were the best class ever/yaddayaddayadda." ??

It happens in college too, under different circumstances.
