Well tonight was pref night. First of all it turned out I just couldn't get myself to be "not as nice" or whatever to Libra or Pisces. I did tell Libra that I'm worried about how far away there house is from campus, but thats as much as I could do. And when at Pisces they asked me if I was comfortable at the house, I of course said yes because i felt like it was just mean to say no. I'll start off by telling you about my night then I'll tell you about my pref card. O and let me just add it started raining as soon as pref night started so that sucked lol
My first house tonight was...
Libra- They were very nice to me there but I still didn't really feel a connection. The girl I was with told me she thought I'd really fit in to there sorority and things like that, but a majority of the people I talked to in my group were told the exact same thing. There ceremony was nice.
Next was..
Aquarius- I was of course very happy to be here. The person that was with me had actually never met me before but she asked a few people about me and wrote me a really nice letter and read it to me. When she asked me about who I'd met in the sorority and stuff I made sure to mention that I had loved everyone I had met. It was also the only house where i felt i was involved in the conversation instead of being talked at. I loved there ceremony and almost cried during it. I would love to be a sister here and this confirmed it for me.
Last was...
Pisces- When i went there I talked to the same girl i had had the night before. She was very friendly and nice. There ceremony to be honest...really did nothing for me. And that kind of confirmed for me that it really wasn't the right place for me. Although the people were nice, nothing really moved me.

So after my 3 houses I went to fill out my preference card. I talked to a recruitment conselour and she said if I wanted I could only put one house down. But I knew that if I did that and did not receive a bid I still could not rush for a year. So i decided to put Aquarius as my number one and Libra as my number 2 because I decided that if I got a bid from them I'd probably really have to think about it, but I could maybe give them a chance. I did not put Pisces on my card because I knew i would not accept a bid from them. I am defintley hoping and praying that I end up at Aquarius but I know I've done all I can do and I'll have to just wait and see what happens tomorrow.

Also..a girl I was talking to said she was in a local sorority at her school last year and that is why she is able to go through rush here this year..I was just wondering what people thought of that.

When will you find out tomorrow?

We all wish you the best!

(Oh, and in answer to your last question about the girl who was in a local going through...That's fine -- it's accepted, welcomed -- it's fine.)

Whether Aqaurius or Libra, I hope you'll see what's in the "stars" is meant for you! Good luck tomorrow! Remember that all of the ladies who attended a pref party are very much wanted by the sororities who have invited them and while bid matching allows them to take only a certain number remember that regardless of tomorrow's outcome three sororities were really wowed by you!

You are allowed to rush as long as you were not previously an initiated member of any of the 26 national panhellenic sororities. So it's okay to rush if you were once in a local, since locals are not part of national panhellenic council.

Well i went and got my bid and I didn't get a bid to Aquarius which is Alpha Chi Omega, I got one to Libra which is Chi Omega. I'm not really sure how I feel about it yet. To be honest I've been crying since I found out cuz I'm really dissapointed so I'm not sure if I'm going tonight or not.

((HUGS))

My thoughts are with you! I know that you will make the decision that is best for you...only you know what that is.

I will add, however, that one of my best friend's had put another chapter first on her card, but got her second choice and got a bid to Sigma. She made the decision through tears to see how things went...attended bid day...began the new member process...and was initiated. She went on to be very active in college (an officer a few years, several chairs, etc.) and is now our alum chapter president.

(Edited for spelling/grammar...hope I got them all!)

Wow. I don't know what to say. It's not possible for me to put myself in your shoes completely, but on the other hand...knowing what I know...having had 25+ years of fantastic Sisterhood experiences -- I hope you'll give it a chance.

May I suggest something? Assuming that most of the other GLOs won't be participating in COR, give it a week or two weeks - a definite but short period of time. See how you like it. If you don't, then cancel your membership and concentrate on becoming active yet scholastically desirable for next year.

Just like most decisions, giving it some time may change how you feel about it. The sole exception would be if you absolutely cannot stand more than one of the other New Members - that could make your life miserable in years to come!

That is incorrect. If you SIP and don't get a bid, you are not eligible to be a quota addition. You are eligible for COB.

Someone at your school needs to review the NPC Unanimous agreements.

WOW what a great group of strong greek sororities you had to choose from . . . I really don't know how you could go wrong.

Umm Lemme See

Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Chi Omega
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Sigma Delta Tau
Sigma Kappa

XO is such a strong national sorority . . . I am so glad you are giving it a chance. AND KNOW that what ever the sorority (chapter) is right now, you and your pledge class can make it what you want it to be.

I know I am looking at it from a 35 year olds eyes but, really you might not see it now but, you will be 35 some day and could be so proud to move to where ever you end up and see another XO . . . far be it for me to be panhellenic but XO is such a great national panhellenic sorority and when you look at the big picture you are very lucky/blessed to have XO be on your "jersey."

GET TO KNOW YOUR "pledge" sisters and see if they are the group you might like to "grow up with."

KEEP US UPDATED and thanks for the recruitment thread.

Alright soo I just got back from all of my bid day celebrations. My pledge class right now is 7 girls and i really like all of them. There will also probably be more after COB. I actually was kind of amused because 4 of the 7 people in my pledge class had Alpha Chi as there first choice and I also heard many girls that ended up in various sororities saying they felt led on by alpha chi. Alpha Chi's pledge class seems fairly big to me and there are a few girls i love in it, but also a few girls that I'm really suprised about ( aka the girl who openly admitted she was purposfully a bitch to every other chapter and the girl who swallowed and then semi chocked on her on gum) so all in all maybe it really wouldnt have been the right place for me. I think I was partially set on my cousin's friend and what the chapter was like when she was there, and I'm not sure that thats what it is anymore. I also think that maybe, i dont remember who wrote this, but that I didn't give the other chapters enough of a chance because I had my mind set on alpha chi. I had a really good time tonight and I looooove our bid day shirts lol. I was so happy to see how happy everyone was to see us and I can't wait to keep going back to the house and move in in January. I also realized that if I wasn't high enough on Alpha Chi's list with my cousins recommendation then I probably would have been even lower without it and so I guess I just wasn't what they were looking for, but I was what ChiO was looking for. I'm also suprised that the recruitment conselor told me that if I SIP'd that i couldnt do anything for a year if that was not true but in the end It seems i found the place for me anyways, and I like that it's all my own, not my cousins since I seem to follow in her footsteps alot. Sorry this is so long I guess I had more to write than I thought lol. But thank you for all your support and I am going to try very hard to remain active on this board.

That is really cool that so many of your new sisters preffed the same chapters-- shows you are a cohesive group! Remember that it is an honor to pref at a house-- it does mean they have a strong interest in you and you can always take that with you-- it isn't an outright rejection. I know it would be nice to get the number one pick, but as you said you are seeing where things may have fallen in place for the best for you!

I'm glad you're liking Chi Omega and getting excited about it. It sounds like the chapter is very happy to have you as a new member! And being where you are wanted is a very nice place to be, indeed!
