Chill out, guys. No reason for you sorostitutes to get so angry. There, I hope you're all thoroughly offended.
On a side note, I can't believe this Macallan guy...I bet his fraternity wouldnt even allow a woman to pledge. What a sexist.

I know, I have tried to get them to change their bidding process....but they just won't listen. I have always wanted a woman "brother." I think it would do great things for gender relations.
DSTCHAOS: It is commonplace to refer to a group as "guys." You said it was wrong. I proved you wrong. Thats all. I'm sorry you failed to realize that twice.

I think her point has less to do with what is commonplace than with what is right. You don't want to be referred to as a gal, she doesn't want to be referred to as a guy. There's nothing you can prove wrong about that.
On a sidenote, yay for my OPhiA "mister sisters"

How is this an issue of right and wrong? When referring to a group of people as "guys" it takes on an entirely different context. I think anyone of average intelligence could understand this.
Its not like i'm calling her a man. Obviously no, I can't prove her personal feeling wrong. Do I think it is insanely ridiculous for her to make that big of a deal out of a word? Yes.

For those of you who have issue with the term "sorostitute," I can understand why you'd be bothered by it. But I've used the term before and can laugh it off when someone jokingly calls me one. It all depends on the context it's used in. When my guy friends calls me a "dirty sorostitute" or their "favorite sorostitute" there's no problem. I don't get upset with them for that because I know that they don't mean it in an offensive way. My best friend is the nicest girl in the world and I've even heard her use the term. If someone ever used the term in a way that was meant to be mean, then I'd probably be a little upset. It all depends on the context and who is using the word.
But I understand that it's an offensive term to some and not to others. All I can say to that is, last I checked everybody's offended by something and there's nothing out there that gives you the right to not be offended. So don't get so upset about it, it's not worth all this discussion.
And to add two more cents - I've used "guys" as a generic genderless group term my entire life. I've been informed that it's a New England thing (you guys, specifically) and no one's ever had a problem with it. I believe that I understand the point you're making, DSTCHAOS, but I personally think that you're taking it a little far since it seems that he's not quite getting it.

You've got to understand maccallan...
DSTChaos is never wrong. Even when she has been proven so.
She'll refuse to listen to empirical method and everything.

That's called "consider the source."
A lot of the people on here who use "frat" simply don't know any better - they are new to Greek life - and when they're told it's offensive they stop using it. It's more looking out for them and trying to prevent them from sounding stupid.
In this instance though, that horse is WAY out of the barn.
