MONTREAL - Sentencing arguments will begin in November for a woman who followed in the footsteps of Lorena Bobbitt, the Virginia woman who gained infamy in 1993 for slicing off her husband's penis.
Andree Rene's weapon of choice was fondue fuel.
Following an argument in April, 2001, the woman set her boyfriend's penis on fire as he slept.
The 52-year-old man suffered third-degree burns in the pelvic area and on his chest. He spent a month in hospital.
Rene was found guilty of aggravated assault last year.
Sentencing arguments begin Nov. 21.
It's not clear why so much time elapsed between conviction and sentencing.
The maximum sentence is 14 years in prison.
The Crown attorney said he will ask for a jail term, but wouldn't elaborate on how many years in prison he will seek.
Rene remains free on bail until sentencing.
Legal analyst Steven Slimovitch said Rene could avoid a jail sentence, unless she acted with premeditation

Mom Jailed Because Of Son's Rotten Teeth
Woman Thought Teeth Would Just Fall Out
POSTED: 8:16 am EDT September 14, 2006
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- A Pennsylvania mother is behind bars because, police said, her son's lack of dental care was her fault.
Survey: Poor Dental Care: Abuse?
According to a local dentist, the 5-year-old boy has just eight teeth left and will need to be on a special soft food diet. The dentist said the child's tooth decay was so severe, it was criminal, and police agreed.
Dr. Nicholas Prusack said the nerves are exposed in several places.
"This is the X-ray showing the rotted teeth of the 5 year-old victim, and 12 of them so infected they had to be pulled," Prusack said.
Investigators said the damage was the result of the boy having never seen a dentist.
Now, his mother, 43-year-old Erneida Resto of Bethlehem, Pa., is charged with endangering her son's welfare.
Northampton County, Pa., children and youth services began investigating Resto in February when she took her son to a dental office in Salisbury Towsnhip, Pa.
That is where Prusack performed the surgery, saying the boy was in so much pain he could not eat.
"It is probably one of the worst cases," Prusack said.
Prusack was so concerned that he notified authorities, who said the boy had been complaining of headaches and pain in his mouth since the summer of 2005.
According to court documents, his mother said she knew her son was hurting, but did not take him to a dentist because she figured his baby teeth would fall out and the problem would fix itself.
Prusack said if he hadn't removed the boy's teeth he would likely have ended up in the hospital within six months.
He said the boy is now left with only six teeth on the bottom and two teeth on top and has a long road ahead.
"He's not going to have all of his permanent teeth, and for the next 10 years chewing food will be a problem for him," Prusack said.
Restohas been sent to Northampton County Prison under $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 22.
The boy is now in foster care, officials said.

The foster care system....
I've been working as a Foster Care Coordinator for about 2 months now...all I can say is sooooo many people are in it for the money....it varies from agency to agency but on average foster parents can make up from between 1400 to 2000 per month per child if the child is therapeutic (which means they have behavioral or emotional problems) in addition to this the kids get Medicaid for their health care, some recieve SSI, (which the fosters get), and agencies like my own pay for any extras for the kids like dance, eye glasses, birthday parties, etc.....so if you do the math fosters with several children can be making ALOT of money....THey may not all like me but I am hard on my foster parents.....I mean you telling me you didn't have gas money to take your foster child to an therapy appointment is not ok because you're making like 1800 per month for that child...especially if the child is in DSS custody because then DSS may pay the family additional room and board....don't get me wrong there are many families that are foster fams to help kids who need it, and these kids often have no one, but some people see it as the lastest hustle...
if you are interested in becoming a foster parent it can be a very uplifting experience knowing you're helping a child unable to help themself..the children's stories would REALLY break your heart

Sadly, before I read the Pennsylvania part, I seriously thought this story was going to be about my step-sister-in-law. Her son ended up in the hospital because he broke his front tooth, and she never got it fixed, and since her kids drink Mt. Dew and eat candy from 6am-9pm his tooth was starting to rot... You can't make this stuff up.

(LMAO about you thinking it was your step-sister-in-law) Seriously, children are a 25/8 job. Yes, 25/8 because it's so much work you somehow add another day and hour to do it right! Anyway, I really think that people should have permits to bring children into the world. It's sad when you have to have a permit to fish or hunt, but any fools with the right "tools" can go and make a baby.

My plan is to steralize people at birth, and then make them take a class, test, and get a license to be un-steralized. Not conservative much, am I?

Wow.... The sad thing is that makes more sense than letting some irresponsible fools make their 8th or 9th baby before the courts get involved and tell a mother, "No more babies for you." (That was somewhere on GC before, probably this thread.)
That tooth story is disgusting, and the mother needs to be wopped (not whooped) upside her head. He's not going to get all of his teeth...? I hope Karma is really a b**** to the Mom when she gets old.
